Quiet and familial place with English speaking owners, so kind and helpful ! I definitely recommend this centrally located place !

This is a really nice place to stay, especially if you like to have the atmosphere of an old traditional house. The staff is really nice and it does not feel like a hostel but more like living together for a short time.

Awesome place..

Amazing experience, made my Kyoto experience complete. Incredible hostel with a traditional Japanese feel to it. The common area was a welcoming and relaxed vibe to come back to after a busy day and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Could not recommend a better hostel to stay. Clean, affordable, excellent location and an authentic experience.

Enjoyed my stay at Ichiensou. Staff were very hospitable and helpful. The location of the guesthouse was great, The area around the guesthouse was very beautiful and traditional. It was easy to travel to other places too. Just one problem would be the insufficient heating in the house during winter.

This place had a great atmosphere. I traveled solo and the lounge was a great place to relax with everyone and talk about what we had seen/done. The owners speak fluent English, Japanese, Korean (and other languages) and were very good at integrating everyone together as well as helping with any questions. Location is great aswell, just next to Gion Shijo station and is such a beautiful place to walk around. I made some good friends and wish I could have stayed longer!

Tatami mats were a bit hard, ok for me as I don't move around in my sleep however I don't think they'd be suitable for someone who rolls around. Other than that, had a great time, met great people, thanks Yashi for taking us out on the Wednesday night!

You cannot beat the location! IchiEnSou is right next to Gion station and it's very easy to get to all of the sites you would want to see. The guy who runs it is really great!

Extremely helpful and friendly staff. The location is in Gion, central for visiting temples or shopping. Very close to the subway so easy access to anywhere in the city, including Kyoto Station for the bullet train. The atmosphere is very relaxed, many people sitting in the common room reading or talking. The facilities are standard for hostel and very clean. I would stay here again

The staff are so lovely and helpful, and the place is beautifully decorated. Good facilities and the free tea/coffee was appreciated. Excellent location, couple of minutes from the subway and close enough to walk to several local temples. The only thing I didn't like was that the dorm rooms didn't lock at all so anyone could come in, and it isn't clear on the website that the female dorm room is traditional tatami-style with futons rather than actual beds. Still comfortable though!

Great ambiance there. Staff is friendly and helpful. Comfortable stay in a great location.

Ichiensou is a great place to stay and in the perfect location. The atmosphere is really friendly and relaxed, and Yashi the owner organises a lot of night time activities which were a real bonus. It's more of a traditional guest house than a hostel, which is a great experience, but the facilities such as the kitchen and locker facilities could be a little better.

Very cozy guesthouse in gion. Friendly staff. Good place for couples. Very recommended. Not a party place.
