This was a cool place to stay if you want to be able to sleep after the party. Its a little ways from the main street, so its nice and chill and quiet. If the other guests are cool you will end up all partying together in the common area. The showers are nice and hot, but the river its next to is filled with feces and stinks incredibly bad. We had to buy incense to spend any time there. Also, the mosquitoes are pretty bad there. All together a good place and super cheap. I would stay there again

The staff were extremely rude and unhelpful therefore making our stay very uncomfortable! The location is good.

Well located, close to nightlife and beach. Met lots of people from all over. Slept in 10 bed loft dorm, bed on floor with mosquito net, some have holes in so some mending needed. Can still hear nightlife as loft is open with roof, adds to character and gives natural air conditionin but you may need ear plugs :-)

Upon arrival the place looked like a disaster. Rooms were tiny at best and its on a side street off the main road.

Really great atmosphere, everyone was really friendly there and looking to have a good time. Loft room was pretty spacious with big lockers. The kitchen was well equipped and they had free mineral water.

We came to Montanita on the last night of the 72 hour ban on alcohol for the national election. Despite the town being quiet, we still had fun due to the great atmosphere at Iguana Backpackers. Close enough to town without being right in the middle of the craziness, and the beach is a short walk away. The hostel is by a river, so you might smell an unpleasant stench. Lots of mosquitoes, but all the beds have mosquito nets. It was all worth it just to party with Maria once the town came alive.

Great place to stay in Montanita. The owners are really friendly. They have a great atmosphere at Iguana, there always seemed to be people hanging out and playing cards ready to surf or go to the bars. The only problem is that the place actually smells like sewage. Montanita's sewage system is extremely primitive and so I can't really dock the hostel for it.

Within walking distance of bars, clubs, beach etc, but far enough away not to be kept awake by all night reggaeton. Nasty stench coming from the river and a lot of mosquitoes.

Great atmosphere and service! Everyone´s very nice. The only thing that could be better is cleanliness, mostly in bathrooms, and the smell outside. Anyway I would definetely recommend it! Thanks!

Despite many flaws, such as the constant smell of sewage and the loudspeaker blaring news reports , I had an enjoyable stay here. The location is nice and there's a great atmosphere.

Stayed a few nights at Iguanas in the loft. Even though it is isn't right by the bars you can still hear music until almost 5. Also every time someone walked the floors would shake and wake you up. First night I woke up with bed bug bites, which sucked. I guess you get what you pay for though (5 dollars a night for loft)
