Loft dorm on top floor is excellent for sleeping and hanging out. Hostel is very simple but atmosphere blends well with laid back vibe of the town. Didn't like that back door remained unlocked all day and night and that there was nowhere to hang out after hours.
This place is mediocre. It has cheap beer for sale and a pretty nice chill area, but if that's all you want, then go for it. Otherwise you might want to check a different Hostal, one with better accommodations and cleaner facilities, better yet don't even go to Montañita.
While we at Iguana they were in the middle of major renovations. This was never communicated to us. The water got turned off, and the showers and toilets were unavailable for large parts of the day. The worst part was that the manager first tried to charge us full price despite the fact we had already paid a deposit on hostel world. She then refused to refund our five dollar key deposit because she had failed to write it down. Do not stay here! if you do get a receipt for your key deposit!
Great hostel just one minute walk from the bus terminal and city centre. Great communal area (but avoid it at night unless you have mosquito repellent!).
I love this hostel!! Staff very friendly and helpful..Nice common area where you can share a beer with people, chat and visit places together, and what I liked also was that all the people that stays at Iguanas can go to most of the bars in town for free!!They are always organizing bbq's and other delicious meals for a very reasonable price! Very clean, real hot showers and the kitchen has just everything you need! Comfy beds and close enough to the beach. Thanks Iguana!

This was a nice hostel to stay at... close enough to the beach but far enough so that you can sleep at night. I recommend staying in the loft... it was open to the outdoors and was a great place to meet people. WiFi was only okay since hostel across the street tries to use it too. Showers hot downstairs. Sometimes toilets don't flush... beware. Overall though, I would stay here again. And you can see big iguanas climbing in the trees next to it.
The woman working at the hostel was very rude. All the bathroom smelled badly so you had to take a deep breath before entering. The sheet looked dirty and where damp. The only good thing with this hostel was the deck and all the nice guest that we encounterd there.
The hostel is close to the town and the beach. The bad point is they dont answer to emails or phone. They didn´t a first time when I confirmed my coming by mail. And second time, I never got any answer (phome or emails) when I asked to check for me if I forgot my netbook there....
Iguana Backpackers is a 5 minute walk from the bus stop, and situated 2 minutes outside the hub of Montañita so you have the buzz of the town but it's quiet for when you don't feel like partying. The river that it is situated on is a great place to see iguanas, although it does give off a slight smell, but this really isn't an issue. The bar area is great for meeting new people and really sociable. I stayed in the open loft, comfortable with mosquito nets, I just had a liner and never felt cold
The place is open and wooden which is a nice feel. Except it means you can hear the music playing locally and it is loud. Security was fine, lockers in the rooms. Bathrooms were ok, no hot water at times and toilets not always flushing. The security guard was brilliant, I had a problem and he was sympathetic and solved it. Kitchen was ok, atmosphere was good at times, communal area was quite nice and open. Good location, short walk to everywhere.
