How to find us
We are located very near to the centre of Edinburgh. 17A Abercromby Place (EH3 6LB) is in the Georgian New Town area, 350 metres due north of Princes Street (East End), the cultural, architectural and shopping hub of Edinburgh. See map on this site. Waverley rail station is the nearest to the house, and most inter-city services terminate there. Taxis are always available outside Waverley rail station.
The airport bus service, number 100, stops in the city centre outside the entrance to Waverley station, leaving a short walk (10 minutes) via Princes Street, St Andrew Square and Dublin Street. The airport bus service offers good value at 4 single or 7 return.
The airport tram service stops in St Andrew Square, approximately 250 metres from the house. Tickets cost £5 single, £8 return. (N.B. - ticket machines only accept credit card and sterling coins, not sterling banknotes.) Owing to the number of stops en-route the tram takes slightly longer than the bus or a taxi, but is perhaps more suitable than the bus for anyone with restricted mobility, as the buses are double-decked.
Taxis from the airport usually cost around 18-20 one way (maximum 5 persons restricted luggage space). The airport is 6 miles away and travellers should allow 25 minutes for the journey. During morning and evening rush hours the journey can take longer. We can arrange pick-ups for larger parties from 25.
We now strongly recommend our guests avoid travelling to Edinburgh by car if possible, owing to the restrictions on parking. Similarly, if you are starting a tour in the city it is better to delay picking up your hire-car until the end of your stay. We have some parking spaces at the back of the house, but when these are in use it can be very difficult to find alternative parking in the city centre and the inner suburbs – particularly during the period May–September. In many parts of the city parking is restricted to 4 hours maximum per day. There is a towaway scheme in operation.
