Dorms can be excellent with a few small details - a light next to each bed is really nice. Also some hooks on the walls for stuff and, if possible, a small shelf next to each bed.

Of course if you're looking for a hostel quiet, comfortable and well kept, this hostel is not for you.But i've seen so many hostels so far, that i can with certainty say that is the most original and "full of spirit" where i've never been.Is the best place where you can meet people if you are travelling alone,it has the necessary to stay there(kitchen, laundry, they make dinner),staff is available and courteous...So if you want to make an experience and just don't sleep in a place, this is for you

I love India House! It's a friendly atmosphere and your fellow travelers are always interesting. Sure sometimes the shower curtain falls down and sometimes you have to deal with weirdos or noisy drunks, but in general, I'll always stay here when I travel to New Orleans. The staff is knowledgeable and no nonsense.

We were greeted by an unhelpful moody staff member upon arrival. Every time we asked for tips/help or generally dealt with the staff they couldn't be bothered and almost seemed uptight. The room literally stank of sewage and was pretty grubby. But the icing on the cake was thy on our last morning we went to make a hot breakfast only to find our food ha been stolen out of our correctly labelled Tupperware box.

Great that there was a pool! Dont get that much in hostels. The rooms are alright, but get really hot and humid over night. Fans and a/c aren't that great. Showers aren't the cleanest. I would definitely recommend the shower upstairs in the main building. Some staff are super nice and helpful, and others don't want to know you.

I highly recommend India House. I stayed in both a private room and a coed dorm, and found them to be cleaner than expected. The dorm did smell a little like feet, but not too offensive. The staff has great recommendations for restaurants and things to do. The kitchen area was clean and had plenty of space and utensils for cooking. Clean bathrooms. The best location. Really great place to hang out and meet people. I do recommend taking pillows, blankets, towels, and sheets if possible.

If you are allergic against dust you may want to go somewhere else. I had a terrible allergic reaction, changed room, although it did only get mildly better there. Cleanliness is not the strongest side of the india house. But the atmosphere here is great and people are a bit on the boheme side. Very nice. It is further from the action of the french quarters than the website makes you believe. Walking for 20-30 minutes may be required depending on where you want to go. Taxi back at night needed.

Everything else was fine until my last night of stay when one of the guys staying in my room woke up screaming that a cockroach went into his ears. It was really painful and horrifying to see that. Infact later in the night I did see a cockroach in the room as well. I don't have any complaints regarding the stay, maintenance and service of the place but that cockroach incident was really scary.

Great collection of international and American guests - easy access to the Canal Street streetcar. Good, tasty, affordable food. Fun, social atmosphere. Not the cleanest hostel I've stayed at (occasional mouse and cockroach in our room; showers and bathrooms needed some repairs) but it's also New Orleans, so you need to be ready to rough it a bit and roll with the punches. Helpful, informative staff. Good for your money. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit NOLA. All in all, fun.

I absolutely loved my stay at India House. The staff is amazing and just so nice. I had some great conversations with several of them and really wish I could have stayed longer. The room was clean and the people I met there very respectful and friendly. I couldn't have had a better time! Thanks so much India House! Lillian NYC
