India house is good if you like to party all the time. Don't even think about sleeping or rest after a whole day visiting the city. It is also a little far from french quarter and in a not so safe neiborhood. Cleanliness is very poor. This is probably the worst hostel that I stayed in the US.

A fun hostel; for the price of the private twin you get your own small dorm room, which is fine if you don't have unreal expectations. bathrooms etc were generally clean. kitchen sparsely equipped. happy hangout noise from the backyard so bring earplugs; on the other hand, enjoy the vibe from all this happy hanging out. Not central but conveniently along a street car.

The room was clean but the door was extremely rickety held closed by a hook. Also the pillow and blanket were really extremely worn out. The bathrooms were pretty clean but on my last day as we were rushed to get to our cab, my friend fell. We were told the floors were so slippery someone had recently fallen and broke a rib that then punctured his lung. The same thing could have happened to us! This could be prevented by changing tiles or by putting down non slip bath stickers! How irresponsible

Loved India house! Met a ton of wonderful people. Had a cheap private room that was very spacious with AC. Location isn't anything special but it's right next to the street car so the French quarter is only a 15 minute ride away.

The Staff was really bad - they were lying to my face and didn't really see that they did anything wrong. It was a shabby experience - the Hostel it self though attracted really cool people and I had a good experience in New Orleans.

Probably my favourite hostel I've stayed in -- fantastic atmosphere, quirky and cool setting (even has a swimming pool!), easy access from location to the heart of the city by streetcar, and super cheap to stay in a dorm. Definitely would come again!

We had a great time at India House Hostel. The staff was friendly and helpful and set the tone for the hostel. They helped us understand New Orleans's neighborhoods, where to find good music and how to stay safe. They are also excellent chefs! Wonderful grounds and everything was well maintained. One of our favorite hostels. Thanks!

This hostel is nice and one of the more social that I've stayed in. The $5 dinners are great and it is very close to the streetcar that goes down Canal St. You can get to the French Quarter in about 20 minutes. We had a private 4 person room. The plumbing was not great and I was worried that the toilet was going to clog. They also didn't clean or maintain it once during our 4 day stay. They trash was very full by the end. It's also a fairly noisy hostel because people are up drinking all night.

A really nice place with lots of nice people bonding. When we checked in there was one girl in the reception that had an attitude that was not cool, except from that it was a really good stay. Good food.

Just like backpacking in Europe, we wanted to avoid taxis. This hostel is right beside the streetcar (runs every 15 minutes during the day, and about 30 min at night). The streetcar takes you to all the main attractions. We had a private room with our own bathroom, it was wonderful. Free wifi was nice. Seems like a good place for single travellers to meet people in the common areas. The hostel serves low price breakfast and dinner too. This hostel has the European hostel feel.

This was the best hostel I've ever stayed in. The location was a short trolley ride from downtown, and the people we met were great. There was a patio area out back where everyone congregated during the day. Also, they had great food on the cheap. This place has character! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to meet interesting travelers and interesting in consuming plenty of adult beverages. I will definitely return.

This is a place with true character. The atmosphere makes this place a true gem. We met people from all over the world, a few of whom had come to stay at India House during Jazz Fest each year for the past 20 years, although most of the crowd was young twenties. The place is full of art and liveliness. It has a community-feel. There's even a shelf in the fridge designated as communal. Great deal for the money. Bring your own towel or pay $5 at the desk for a towel that is yours to keep.

It was my first time staying at a hostel, and India house more than exceeded my expectations. It was clean, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, I felt safe, and met a lot of amazing people! I will definitely be coming back.
