This is a place with true character. The atmosphere makes this place a true gem. We met people from all over the world, a few of whom had come to stay at India House during Jazz Fest each year for the past 20 years, although most of the crowd was young twenties. The place is full of art and liveliness. It has a community-feel. There's even a shelf in the fridge designated as communal. Great deal for the money. Bring your own towel or pay $5 at the desk for a towel that is yours to keep.

It was my first time staying at a hostel, and India house more than exceeded my expectations. It was clean, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, I felt safe, and met a lot of amazing people! I will definitely be coming back.

overall it was pretty good set up, comfortable and clean. the meal service is a big plus and kitchen was very nice. the staff was helpful but overall the place did not have a really welcome vibe, seems like the place has a lot of regulars and maybe even people who drop by daily that don't stay there.

India House is a great place to stay. It isn't really walking friendly but it is less than a block away from the Canal streetcar line. When I stayed there, there was live music one night, a crawfish boil one afternoon, and plenty of good food served in the kitchen (there are also several places within a few blocks that serve really delicious food). This place is just really fun and full of other fun travelers.

Despite the bandaid wrapped up in my blanket it was a great hostel!

Good information about concerts and venues + own activities. Staff was friendly but sometimes a littlebit to "strict". In general very good hostel with nice rooms and all the services one can expect. In the main building sometimes you have to wait a longer time for a free bathroom.

Dorms can be excellent with a few small details - a light next to each bed is really nice. Also some hooks on the walls for stuff and, if possible, a small shelf next to each bed.

I love India House! It's a friendly atmosphere and your fellow travelers are always interesting. Sure sometimes the shower curtain falls down and sometimes you have to deal with weirdos or noisy drunks, but in general, I'll always stay here when I travel to New Orleans. The staff is knowledgeable and no nonsense.

Of course if you're looking for a hostel quiet, comfortable and well kept, this hostel is not for you.But i've seen so many hostels so far, that i can with certainty say that is the most original and "full of spirit" where i've never been.Is the best place where you can meet people if you are travelling alone,it has the necessary to stay there(kitchen, laundry, they make dinner),staff is available and courteous...So if you want to make an experience and just don't sleep in a place, this is for you

Great that there was a pool! Dont get that much in hostels. The rooms are alright, but get really hot and humid over night. Fans and a/c aren't that great. Showers aren't the cleanest. I would definitely recommend the shower upstairs in the main building. Some staff are super nice and helpful, and others don't want to know you.

We were greeted by an unhelpful moody staff member upon arrival. Every time we asked for tips/help or generally dealt with the staff they couldn't be bothered and almost seemed uptight. The room literally stank of sewage and was pretty grubby. But the icing on the cake was thy on our last morning we went to make a hot breakfast only to find our food ha been stolen out of our correctly labelled Tupperware box.
