I stayed in a basic room and paid more than I'd expect to for a similar room elsewhere in Asia. Though generally clean, there were ants in the bathroom. Staff were very friendly and it's a good location right on the beach (although overall I didn't rate Hikkaduwa much, better to go south to Unawatuna). There are also much nicer rooms available with hot water and AC, though they come with a higher price tag.
