Property Information:
Welcome to the International House of Washington, formerly the International House of United Tel. We’re located in the bustling Chinatown area of downtown DC.
We have free Wi-Fi and high-speed cable internet throughout the premises, plus continental breakfast. If you want to print anything, the first three pages are free.
Our clean rooms include clean, new hardwood floors. Some rooms include a private bathroom. The dorm rooms are very secure, with combination door locks.
Our clean 18-bed dorm includes a piano, refrigerator, kitchen sink and microwave.
Facilities include large lockers (30x30x38) with their own locks (no need to bring your own), continental breakfast, a kitchen with free rice, and games including Taboo, Jenga, Uno, cards, Pictionary, the Wii and golf putting. Our library of books include TOEFL, quiz books, phrase books, riddles and brain teasers!
You can make free calls to landlines in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and Chile and cell phones in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US and Canada.
From here you can walk to the White House, the Capitol, the convention centre, the free Smithsonian museums, restaurants, 14 movie theatres, Safeway, the pharmacy and the yellow line on the metro (just two minutes away).
In order to get the most out of DC, we recommend that you plan to stay for three nights. There are many free places to go. Most museums are free and can take from 2 to 8 hours. Some people only stay one or two nights and are disappointed because they’re rushed and can't do as many interesting and educational activities as they’d like.
Our manager formerly served in a number of US government agencies, like the Department Of State, USAID, inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, the US Army, National Institute Of Health and the Government Accountability Office.
We look forward to making your stay enjoyable, healthy, educational and fun. We do not permit alcohol, drugs, smoking or persons under the influence of alchohol.
We do not permit residents of Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia to stay as guests here. Please read our Things to Note below before making a booking.

Best of the 4 hostels we stayed in on a NYC/WDC trip; friendly, relaxed & homely atmosphere. In a good location (though we were advised not to walk down the particular st it was on late at night, but the parallel st was fine & busier), a short walk from the bus stop but also an easy walk to to a lot of the sites. Room was clean, well stocked with books, maps, magazines & a big tv plus nice staff & a good communal lounge. Over and above what we expected from a hostel. Recommend.
