Despite the fact that the rooms are small and there are cleaner hostels out there I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. I stay at a hostel to meet cool people and have fun not to stay in a room the whole time. Thus, this place was perfect for me. The staff are great and I met heaps of cool people here. I totally recommened the Favela Tour and the City Tour that they offer. Both give you a very cool insight into Rio.Despite the fact that the rooms are small and there are cleaner hostels out there I wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. I would recommend Ipanema Wave to anyone wanting to stay in the Ipanema area! Alex is an excellent host, really helpful and great fun! Great location, frequented by many internationals. English & Portuguese speaking staff friendly & helpful. However, accommodations were sub par. Some complained of loose wires & sparks in a downstairs shower, and the upstairs one had inconsistent water temp & dimming light whenever water was on. Overheard some considering switching hostels. For travelers interested in meeting others, Wave is great, but there are definitely better accommodations in Ipanema (and even in same alleyway as Wave).Great location, frequented by many internationals.
