'only' good for facilities because there is only shared bathroom and toilet. Anyway, the hotel is perfectly clean, and always a good atmosphere. Staff speaks english, very kind and helpful. J-Hoppers and Hana hostel seem to organize regularly some eenings where everyone is invited to eat together something coocked by staff inside the hotel. Very good moments. Truly good moments. Thanks !

Great value for a very comfortable place to stay. Staff is very friendly with strong English-speaking ability. There isn't much in the immediate area surrounding the hostel, but there is a subway stop 2 blocks away that gives you access to the rest of the city.

This place was just awesome. It's in a convenient location, so it's easy to walk to Kyoto station from there. There's a 7-Eleven and Lawson convenience store near the hostel, which was great when I wanted to get some food or drinks. Of course, there are also some eating places in the area if that's more preferable. The staff here were so nice and easy to talk to. It's also really safe. It's also great to meet other travellers. I travelled by myself, but I didn't feel alone while staying here!

I loved the set up of the dorm room. Each bed has curtains so you have privacy. There is a hole in the locker door so you can charge things by threading the wire through. Your valuables charge while they are safely locked up.

J-Hoppers! I have stayed at J-Hoppers throughout my stay in the Kansai area of Japan. I am their newest loyal fan for lodging. These guys do it right. I highly recommend renting a bike in their Kyoto guest house and exploring Kyoto with Googlemaps. I explored Kyoto thoroughly using this method, thanks to J-Hoppers for a good night's rest and facilities.

One of the best Hostel of Japan so far, a bit pricey but it's Kyoto... Most of the staff are awesome, And the living room at the 3 floor is quite nice. Will come again!

Amazing hostel with great facilities and staff. Great location, 10 minute walk from Kyoto station, and a 2 minute walk from a subway station to Kyoto station. Always a great place to stay, and my first recommendation to anyone staying in Kyoto.

Very good hostel, beds are wide and comfortable, good location, you can rent bike which is very useful in Kyoto (500 yen/day) Friendly, english speaking staff. Clean.

JHoppers in Kyoto was great! It was the second hostel I've ever stayed at, but it was so much better than the one I stayed at in Tokyo. It has set my standards so high that I don't think any other hostel will ever compare!

The aircon in our room was old and made a very loud rattling noise, it just couldn't warm the room up at all - and it was very chilly in the middle of January. And the inscriptions on the remote were all in Japanese with no English instruction. Also they use bedsheets with the duvet - rather gross in my opinion... Otherwise it would have been a very nice place, clean and close to the railway station. We chose to stay at another guesthouse on the way back to Tokyo.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful in providing information, both about the hostel and about places to visit. They genuinely seemed to enjoy their work and interactions with guests.
