The only complaint that I had is that quiet hours were supposed to start at 10pm but a tour group sat in the lobby talking and lecturing each other till almost 1am.

Jaffa Gate Hostel has a great location, just inside Jaffa Gate in the Old City. The hostel is very clean and the owners are very nice and very helpful. There is no central heating but they do provide space heaters for cold nights.

GREAT location, right by Jaffa Gate in the old city. It has a cool atmosphere - like staying in a 700 year old church - but this comes at the price of no heat. It was realllllly cold at night when I was there in March. Luckily, there is abundant hot water for showering (note that it's a hand-held shower, but the bathroom is well-kept). Just bring extra blankets & clothes and be prepared for a cold night. Also, sound travels like crazy, you will hear everything your neighbors say or do.

Clean and well run, with friendly staff, but quite cold in winter, and with cheap, sagging matresses. This is probably a good budget place for couples, with an unbeatable location in the Old City.

Cold in the winter! There was no heating (unless you wanted to rent a heater) and the doors were left open during the day. Blankets were provided but were old and smelly. The sheets didn\'t fit the bed so I slept very uncomfortably. Wireless internet did NOT work. Positives: very clean, not crowded, and lots of character. The walls of the rooms are 800 years old.

The best facet of Jaffa Gate is its location, within the Old City gates but also close to bars, shops, and the tram on Jaffa Road in the New City. Given that lodging in Jerusalem is quite expensive, this is a good deal. My private room was fairly nice. However, this is one of those hostels with minimal character. The place could be cool -- there's a spartan-decorated roof and two living rooms in a historic building -- but no one seems to have tried to create a social or homey atmosphere.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend it to anyone planning on visiting Jerusalem. The location can\'t be beat, and the price was well within my budget.

The hostel itself was above average; but the staff were SPECTACULAR! I have never been treated better by the staff of a hostel. For this reason I would reccommend Jaffa Gate Hostel whole-heartedly.
