great kitchen. In spite of notices it was still a little noisy when backpackers went to their rooms on a Saturday night. However for a couple in their seventies it was still a good place to stay.

The hostel was really nice and everybody was helpful and friendly. The big and fully equipped kitchen and the rooms were clean. We were annoyed by the dirty showers though.

It was a very nice and clean hostel. The hostel reflects it's past existence as a jailhouse very nicely. Unfortunately, Christchurch is still very much in the recovery phase so the location will be better in coming years.

It was a great experience to stay in jail:-) The whole thought about lying in an old cell was interesting, and besides from that the hostel was clean, the staff very friendly and helpful, and there was a very nice and relaxing atmosphere.

I booked my teenage children in to stay a couple of nights and I thought the place was great. The character obviously impressed others as many were wearing the jailhouse t-shirts.

Some staff were helpful,. Others seemed unenthusiastic to help. Location was a bit out of the way too, though it was very clean

Good hostel, very bad communication with foreign staff, too many different people behind the counter.

Very cool place in old restored jail. Lots of interesting stuff inside and the staff is able to tell you few interesting things on history. Is located a little outside the center and internet and wifi is really expensive.

The hostel is lovely and clean. The staff were excellant and very friendly. The only thing I would say is that it could do with more computers as there was only 2 but often people had to wait.

Excellent run backpackers, very clean with very helpful staff ! Due to the lack of accommodation in Christchurch because of the earthquake, extending your stay was impossible as always fully booked, which was disappointing !

Excellent hostel, such a novelty factor staying in Jail!! Spotlessly clean, plenty of info available to plan your travels. Just please tell guests that the wifi card has to be used in one sitting! Good location to explore surrounding areas, bus into town at over $3 is a bit on the high side for such a short journey (nothing to do with the hostel, just a general comment on that.) Salvo's store nearby where you may be able to pick up cheap travel items! Got a sleeping bag for $4! :-)

Loved the building, staff wer friendly and everything was very clean. Atmosphere was a bit 'clinical' with an awkward silence... You might need a few bean bags for reading and talking down the middle corridor or something, to create a bit more of a homely feeling in the common spaces? You could remove them at night and put them up the front. Just a thought.
