Great experience to sleep in a jailcell. Loved everything. Only thing I missed was a nightlamp at my bed.

It's a nice hostel, comfy but the location is not that good, i had to walk 1h to go to the intercity bus station. Nobody have been in this hostel a long time so it's kind of hard to meet people there.

The shower I was using switched from hot to cold a couple of times, but besides that it couldn't have been better. I really liked the jailhouse and if i ever stay in chch again I will definitely stay there again

Very interesting experience, and a good use of the old, historic jail facility. No real complaints about the facility itself (kitchen is a little constrained, but ok) BUT: the location is lacking. It's right at the edge of the industrial district and a good walk to downtown. If you leave the facility, turn LEFT on Lincoln, not RIGHT! To the left you'll find a few stores and some pubs, but to the right is a vast wasteland of car lots.

Lovely hostel with all those funny references to jail/convicts. Clean, friendly staff. Definitely recommended, one of the best in CHCH. Possible to walk to city center. Internet isn't unfortunately free.

Very cool place to stay! Sleeping in a cell is definitely something. Kitchen was superb - clean and lots of stuff provided. You could lend movies for free and everything was very clean. Staff was nice and helpful.

Was sleeping in 10 room dorm. and was on the top bunk. so scary getting up and down that small ladder, whole bed bunk nearly tipped over every time i went down. The railing at the end of the bed and on the sides that were suppose to help me up were not tightly fitted making it unsafe.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The "cell" layout was awkward but beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, it was quite noisy, making it difficult to sleep well. The Cinema Room was awesome for watching movies and having a stack of board games there was great.

In general we had a great stay at the Jailhouse Accomodation and will be staying there again in a few days. Staff was fantastic. We expected the rooms to be tiny, however, a few more choices to place clothes would be appreciated - as well as an elevator... Location is a bit off, but on the other hand staff was very helpful in organizing transport or giving information in this regard.

We stayed in a double private . It was nice and clean although under the bead there was a lot of dust and stuff from socks to garbage . Looked like hasn't been cleaned for a while.

I was very inconvenienced by the small number of bathroom facilities. (I had a singleroom, share bathroom.) I've stayed in many many Backpacker places, but I've never had to wait for facilities as I had to at Jailhouse. O for a sink in my room! (Shower and lavatory I don't need). I also found the practice of turning off the lights at NINE PM bizarre. Why continue the Jailhouse theme in the bathrooms? Couldn't they be made attractive? Less institutional? Ditto the Kitchens. How about replacing o

Nice, clean place. Stayed here twice for one night only, couldn't say too much about the location except that it's reasonably close to the train station. The facilities are good overall, but the couches are the most uncomfortable I have ever sat on...
