Nice hostel with character - really clean and staff helpful! A little in the middle of nowhere but most of c'church is! No wifi when I was there - it was down for some reason which was annoying! Good choice of movies to watch in lounge

Good staff and nice hostel, a little way out from Central Christchurch though if you plan on walking most places.

Hostel was located just outside the city center. Dorms were spacious with comfortable bunk beds, although plug sockets were not generally in user friendly places. Clean bathrooms & well equipped kitchen area. The WI-FI was not working all the time causing inconvenience whilst trying to organize a campervan trip, however the staff were helpful & did offer to book things on their system during this time. Internet was $3/hr or $6 24hr. Overall the hostel was an awesome experience & would recommend.

The only place to spend the night in Christchurch! Lovely staff, so clean and tidy and the fact it used to be a prison is a fun quirk. Really enjoyed my stay, thank you!

It's a place to stay. There is not much on offer for the price you pay. Kitchen is big though, good to home cook. Bit of info desk, but no daily activities planned. No free wifi, so you have to go elsewhere to get connected. No real common room, so not the best place to meet other people.

Clean and well managed kitchen. Love the soap in the spray bottle!! Loved the white walls and light through the windows. And loved that you dimmed the light for dinner time. I wish you had free wifi for quests.

Hostel in very good location and within walking distance to city and good cafes (try the jailhouse cafe/co-op) and public transport. Staff very friendly and helpful plus there's lots of information on travelling NZ. The hostel is clean, comfortable and quiet. Its great how the old jail has been converted into hostel accommdation. I stayed in private and dorm rooms, both are good and comfortable. What would be really good is free wifi but unfortunately this isn't the case ($3 per hour).

A nice and unusual hostel with very friendly and competent staff. Not dirty at all but a place where you wouldn't shower without thongs on. You get a strong feeling for being in jail and they take it in a funny way. That comes with smaller rooms and lesser amenities than usual - due to it's original purpose. Unusual, deinitely worth staying a night or two but nothing to rave about.

The most unique place we've ever stayed. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Fun atmoshere; really good play on the Jail house theme from prison striped dishes to the Elvis Jail House Rock poster and opportunity to make your own super-fun mug shots. Great information available on history of the building (you can buy the book) and displays of old furnishings etc.

It's a nice experience staying in a former jail. Overall I enjoyed my stay. It was a bit expensive for what it is, but I think you might expect this in Christchurch since there is a shortage in accommodation right now.
