Very welcoming reception. Very efficiently managed and well organized. Lots of room in my 10 bed dorm which has an ensuite toilet (although with no hot water). The hostel succeeds at making it a quiet atmosphere after 9 pm. It is a bit of a walk to the city centre and to the train station but there is a city bus stop almost at the door. Any mess, especially in the kitchen, is caused by the travellers. I would definitely go back and have tried but it fills up,very quickly.

This is absolutely the coolest hostel I have ever stayed. It's modified from a real historic prison - I mean, come on, what else can you ask for!?!? Even tho its not very close to town( there s not much to see in town anyways...), its coolness makes it a total winner. The hostel is probably the only thing cool in chch really... Definitely stay if you have a chance!

Very clean and the staff was accommodating. The rooms are small and sparse but clean, and hey, it's a former jail house so what do you expect?

Very unique accommodation. As we were in a private room I can't speak to whether there were lockers available in the dorms, but security-wise, no one was getting through those solid metal doors! The staff was very friendly.

I thought that there should of at least been some soap, face cloths and a shower mat for use in the bathroom. Shower pressure was excellent.

my sheets were dirty! there was someone elses hair on my pillow, the sheets had marks or them! my pillow case looked like it had someones siliva on it! when i went down to tell the staff i stood there for ten minutes and when the girl was done serving the lady in front of me she walked off!

While I've given the Jailhouse good numbers, it was a terrible night's sleep. First, the noise from the atrium really carries even though the folks downstairs were trying to be quiet. Second, I was on a top bunk which had a railing on one side but was a half a meter away from a window on the other...I was terrified I would roll out of bed.

It's a jail. Cool atmosphere, but otherwise pretty average.

Not a lot of electricity plugs in the room, just one for a 10 bed dorm!

Good idea with the converted jailhouse. Beds were clean and comfortable. The only downside is that it is miles from everywhere. A shuttle bus system may be useful to guests as well as free wifi.

A nice change from the normal type of hostel, quiet and relaxed, comfy beds, a night would have been enough here

It's very basic accommodation and was a 25min walk from centre. Car parking was a bonus.
