A nice change from the normal type of hostel, quiet and relaxed, comfy beds, a night would have been enough here

It's very basic accommodation and was a 25min walk from centre. Car parking was a bonus.

Great hostel. Lots of useful info at check in. Big rooms and the cleanest kitchen. Lots of dvds to watch and quiet at night in the dorms :)

Really nice staff, and interesting feel. However, not a great location or a very social hostel.

Loved the atmposhere and the way they have striped duvets on the beds along with sriprd bowls and cups. Good one!

As always, a clean and friendly stay at jailhouse. Stayed several times now and never disappoints. Kinda cool staying an old jail!

It's a prison.. You should not expect to much. It's definitely a great experiance, but all the white color everywhere would make me mad in a few days.. :-) The staff is friendly, bathrooms clean, ...

Great place for staying in which the hostel itself is a highlight of a trip to Christchurch

Nice place although a bit expensive, and the rooms (we stayed in a twin bed room) are quite small. A bonus of the former function of the place is a superb sound blocking, with no outside noise in the room. The location is not great but good enough with PakNSave/warehouse in about 20 minutes walking (and a bus to take you back with your shopping) and the city center is also about 20 minutes walking.

Most of the staff were fantastic, but there were one or two who weren't very friendly or helpful and it felt like it was an effort for them to talk to us/help us out. Others went out of their way to make us feel welcome and included.

Charging 3 dollars per hour for internet is way too much, especially if it's not possible to just buy a 15-min voucherfor quickly checking the e-mail. Considering what we paid, at least a few mbs should be included for free.

This is a pretty unique place to stay. A lot of the features of the jail remain which is cool. Facilities are really good - I enjoyed the attention to detail with black and white striped kitchenware and duvet covers! Staff were helpful for information about Christchurch. The only real disadvantage of this hostel is the distance from the centre (20 minute walk). Overall, a very pleasant stay!

Only one toilet for men in the first floor is too little if not a urinal is installed. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay and would like to come back. Like this place - very unique.

Quirky to be former prison and nice touches to bring this out, such as with giving the history. Location is a short walk from town but given current situation re: Christchurch it's actually got quite a lot going on. It's a fair walk from the rail station, and they do provide drop off but not collection from railway - they advertise as being closest to railway but still not that close! Cinema room is really nice though maybe closes a little early.
