I have been at a jazz hostel before and I was very pleased with it so I thought this one close to central park would be similarly good. HOW WRONG I WAS! The location was good, right by central park but pretty much everything else was terrible! The staff was rude and unfriendly (with one exception), it was pretty dirty and kind of run down, when we came into our two bed dorm, there was still garbage from the last guests. Our dorm room was in a pitiful state: the beds couldn\'t any more uncomfortable, the wind

If you\'re not fussy, and just want a bed for the night, this place has a great location and provides just that. However, we had a few problems with cleanliness, and the facilities in general there was only one functional shower for the whole floor - so sharing with quite a few people. Also, there\'s no privacy (for changing etc), so if you\'re staying in a dorm with strangers, be prepared to get to know them pretty well! Great location in a great city though!

The staff was WONDERFUL. They really made the entire experience. (Solome was our favorite!) I thought it was strange that the beds were half-made; it looked like everything was made until you pulled back the comforter and saw that the sheets were really just folded in a pile to LOOK made. Kind of an annoying surprise. Great location and atmosphere. Loved the free breakfast!

The bathroom was very dirty and only one shower was working. The window was broken and I didn't feel safe while in the bath as the door didn't lock. There was no restroom or bathroom in our floor so if we need to use it during the night we had to go to the 2nd floor. The staff was very rude when I asked some question. The Wi-fi connection wasn't free and even when I paid for, it didn't worked in my room, only in the cafeteria. The cafeteria was also very small and not well cleaned.

I found the 6-bed dorm clean and comfortable. My friends had a double bed room that was really tiny, not very comfy, with a clearly low value for money compared to other places. In the end of the day, I recommend this hostel for the dorms, not for the private rooms.

Very helpful and friendly staff. The place is a clean enough and a quick subway trip away from all of the NYC attractions. The neighborhood is safe--just watch your stuff as you can never know who else is staying in your room. We had some random, low-value stuff taken from us.

Showers, cleanliness, breakfasts are below the standard but people who stay in the hostel and attractions in and around it are great.

Very good choice for this price. Close to Central Park and a subway. I stayed for 3 nights and it's very possible I will back there ni the future.

Bad showers, bad stairs, and really bad help-desk staff (except night shift). The morning lady could barely speak well. The bathroom facilities are horrible. The breakfast is pretty poor too and they dont let you check in until 3pm. And they have 5 floors and NO elevators. The only good thing is that the wi fi works pretty well and free. Try better the New York Loft Hostel in Brooklyn

Unfriendly staff, dirty room on arrival after check in time, important items thrown away even though they weren't in the trash can, most showers not working. The best part of the start was the sandwich I got from the cafe. HI is better in almost every respect and the same price.

Stayed for four night at the hostel. The first two we barely slept due to a number of incredibly loud children the hostel had no control over. The hostel itself nearly no community atmosphere, they try and arrange nights I didnt see anyone attend, or anyone trying to hang out. Even if they did there was no real area to accomodate this. Reasonably clean, WC a bit grotty. On site laundry helpful, they do food but its limited and poor. Location by CP is nice, but its too expensive for what it is.

The room looked bigger on the photo as it acutally was, big disappointement when we arrived. The showers should defintately have a rack which was missing. stuff was overall friendly and very helpfull.

A great location in New York and a pleasant youth hostel BUT showers have to be fixed at many floors (my friends also had issues with them)

For a hostel, the quality was very good. However, it is more expensive than most hostels because you are paying for location and breakfast. Also, be careful of a few extra charges that can creep up.

Fantastic hostel, good friendly staff. Breakfast is good and they provide good information about the city. Roof top terrace and 1 min walk from Central park.
