Convinient place! It was quite and nice place to stay. However, it's lack of shower room, I needed to wait for sometime for shower.

I will definitely return to Jiyu-in again next time I stay in Kyoto. The location can be a bit tricky to find since its not on a main road but its close enough to Kyoto Station to walk or even closer by subway. The building itself is relatively new and clean, with a nice look. Staff there are so friendly and helpful as well, though I can't vouch for how communication is for those who would be operating only in English- their English seemed decent from what I overheard. All in all great stay.

The staff here is so great nothing else really matters. However, it was clean and quiet with decent sized rooms. I would definitely return.

I stayed here for two nights in a private room, which was clean and modern and of a good size (for a hostel). Staff are extremely polite and helpful and I felt very welcome. Thoroughly recommended.

Spent two nights at the hostel (April 2013), the staff were really helpful, and went out of their way to make my stay in Kyoto amazing, especially with local details. The room was a little small, with limited space to store and pack bags, but the beds were really comfortable. The common area was a little small too, but it made it easier to meet other travelers and get suggestions on things to do. Would stay here again if I'm back in Kyoto.

Lovely hostel with really nice, welcoming and friendly staff who were always willing to help and recommend places to visit. Good communal kitchen and showers. Great location, only 10-15 mins walk from Gion and 10 mins to Kyoto station. Would definitely go back!

The staff went above and beyond to make sure my stay was great. I would recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Both staff were very helpful when we arrived during their cleaning time, they stopped to check us in and take our bags before we went back out exploring. On our second day, after checking out, they still held our bags and allowed us to rent bikes and umbrellas. The woman working even took a picture of us on her camera, and by the time we returned the bikes, she had put the picture on postcards for each of us, with a personalized message. The hostel was very quiet, the staff spoke great English.

Excellent hostel! The location is pretty good, on a quiet street which is close to metro and bus stations! Everything inside the hostel are very clean and the common room is well-equiped with pc, water boiler, kitchen utilities, tv...... The staff (Sayaka and a male staff) are super helpful and willing to share information~ We miss Sayaka~~~~~~~ Will definitely stay here again if we come to Kyoto!!!

Great guesthouse with a very sweet lady on reception. The 4-bed dorm was quiet and private with a curtain that blocked out light well if someone else turned on the main one. Each bed had a reading light and shelf and the bed was really comfortable and sturdy. The shower/bath rooms etc were spotlessly clean and the kitchen/diner area was a nice place to sit, though this isn't the place for you if you want something uber sociable as it's just a nice quiet place to relax.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. You could tell that they cared about their service and kept the place clean and also included aspects useful for backpackers (bikes, information, kitchen, laundry, etc.)

The staff is nice and provided many useful inforamtion for someone like us who is the first time to the place. Both washroom and bathroom are clean.

The staffs are super helpful. I asked for some touring guidance. What they gave me was completely exceeding my expectation. I had very good impression of Kyoto and the hostel.

This is the cleanest hostel I've stayed so far, both in Asia and Europe. The staffs @ front desk were superb and extremely helpful. Awesome staff - beyond friedly and eager to help.

Very much enjoyed my five night stay. I was always warm, comfortable and secure. The staff is very cordial and helpful if questions arise with regard to sightseeing options. The bathroom, shower and kitchen facilities are kept clean and sanitary. There is no curfew requirement and after hours access is available if needed. The subway train station is conveniently located nearby and transfers can be made to have access to the entire City of Kyoto.
