Relaxing, energizing, friendly, comfortable, filled with good spirits--that's how I would describe Jollyboys. I stayed closed to the center, in the "backpackers" (vs. "camp") section, and was an older solo traveller among a range of people: students, backpackers, couples, retired couples. I was willing to spend more for an en suite room (yet still save money over other options) and was very pleased. The staff is excellent, and the facilities are very good.

YAH! We love to be filled with good spirits! The wide range of guests (nationality/age/philosophies) we have is one of the best aspects of Jollyboys we think! All the best with your travels through Africa!

Why ? I did not have time to ask my money back. I have made an error (my plane left on the 31th at 00 20) and you have made an error by making me to pay 2 days. it was not an error in the exchange but an error in dates. I asked you to stay one more night when I arrived the 29 : so it meant until 30 but on the invoice it is written 2 days more. When I discovered the 2 errors i had no time to discuss with the black girl at the counter. I left in five minutes the hostel.

Hi - I'm sorry to hear about this mis-communication with regards to your departure date. I'm assuming you were flying from Lusaka as there are no night flights from Livingstone Airport. I do see that you have just emailed us at the same time as noting this review online. As I'm sure you can appreciate, this would have been a very easy matter to rectify while you were with us at the lodge; however, a week after departing we are unable to offer a refund on the one dormitory night.

Great all in one, being able to book all tours and activities right at hostel. Enjoyed our stay very much. Free pick up at airport upon arrival very convenient.

I had the pleasure of staying with 3 friends at JollyBoys for a few days in January. The staff were welcoming and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable (no bedbugs! yay!) and the facilities were great (Internet, shop, cafe, pool, travel agent and endless books and boardgames on loan all within the hostel). The location is perfect - central to everything, and the vibe is warm, friendly and chilled. Perfect place to stay!

The self-catering kitchen was quite poor. The hot plates don't work well at all and the refrigerator was always packed to the brim. We constantly had to search for forks when we wanted to eat as well.

I have mixed feelings on this place. The actual hostel had a nice structure - pool, lounge area, bar, restaurant and internet cafe. However, the dorm room was infested with bugs and a cat crept into the room in the middle of the night. The noise from the bar carried, so for those of us who weren't in Zambia simply to party it was difficult to get a nights sleep. I came out of the shower to find one of the staff riffling through my make make up bag. We were transferred to the airport in truck.

Thanks for taking the time to make a review. We do certainly read all of them and take them to heart. I see from your reservation that you stayed for one night, in our cheapest and largest dormitory during the New Years period. Unfortunately, it is true that this is the noisier party time of the year. With regards to the staff rifling through your make up bag - we did hear about this at the time and were told that the maid found your make up bag left in the central ablution area and was trying to find out who it belonged to. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your time in Africa and perhaps will stay with us longer in the future for a more enjoyable stay. All the best for 2012.

Bed Bugs and No Mosquito nets. Really Jolly Boys. Huge disappointment. I got attacked and surprised I didn't get Malaria again. Wash or even burn your sheets.

We really liked the atmosphere. We were traveling and spending vacation time with our daughter who is a peace Corp volunteer in Namibia, so there were my wife, myself and our two daughters (ages 27 & 25). We were needing some sleep and ended up with a couple neighbors who were a little loud during the night -- drinking and boisterous - but otherwise we enjoyed the place. We also didn't have enough time to really settle in and take advantage of the relaxing environment that is provided.

Thanks for the top marks and wonderful review - our management and staff really do appreciate the remarks. We're sorry to hear about your boisterous neighbours - sometimes over the New Year period it is difficult to keep everyone's merriment contained. Hopefully we'll see you back again for another visit to Zambia and you can take advantage of our relaxing gardens and the wonderful things to do in Livingstone. Al the best for 2012!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review of Jollyboys - our management and staff do take these reviews on board. Christmas/New Year is one of the busiest times of the year in Livingstone. We do shut the bar at 11pm and encourage everyone that wants to continue with the merriment to go to venues in the city. We are happy to see that you gave us top marks for your stay and hope to see you again in Livingstone!

LOVED Jollyboys lodge..I also spent a night at the camp, which was somewhat less awesome. My only recommendation--soap for the bathroom sinks!

Hi - super happy that you LOVED Jollyboys :) We do have soap in the bathrooms but sometimes pesky folks take it upon themselves to take the liquid soap pumps into the showers so we're often collecting them from there. Happy travels!
