About

Berchtesgaden Youth Hostel is located on a hill outside the market community of Berchtesgaden, about 25 minutes away on foot from the railway station, and offers impressive views of the Watzmann mountain and Berchtesgaden National Park.

Made up of various buildings situated in large, park-like grounds with magnificent old trees, the hostel is ideal for sports, games, and leisure pursuits and also offers a toddlers' playground close to one of buildings.

When the countryside lies beneath a blanket of snow in winter, the hostel not only serves as a starting point for skiing but is also centrally located for such winter activities as snowshoe hiking and guided tours in Berchtesgaden National Park.

Berchtesgaden Youth Hostel is suitable for all age groups and weekend stays, and attracts childrens groups, NGO conference groups, families and winter sports enthusiasts.

Pros: Hostel has fantastic location with mountain view. Very good breakfast selection Cons: you have to book pretty in advance to have spot and there are usually sports groups not single travellers. Staff is a bit confused- I was not offered visitor card which allows you to travel around for free. When I visited the terminál was not working so I paid by bank transfer..I was not shown the room and I had to find out myself where WC and showers are..the facilitirs are for Men and women together

The wifi didn't work in the rooms, only in the lobby (and even that wasn't working) I couldn't lock the bedroom, so anyone could go in. Though there are lockers in the room, that made me uncomfortable The bathroom was shared for men and women and it didn't feel that clean Location was bad. Few buses from the train station to the hostel (specially on weekends). On foot it takes 30min and the path was blocked by construction Mandatory to pay extra 3,5 Euros/night to be a member (?) Good breakfast

You can't lock your room door, a BIG NONO for travellers. Staff prioritizes themselves first, so I got brushed off telling me to wait 5 minutes when I just needed to make a toilet run real quick. They also lost my booking and had to find it. Your beds don't come with sheets already covered, so you're going to put it on yourself, also has bedbugs. You also live ontop of a steep hill, so prepare to hike everytime to get back. Good luck if you have a heavy luggage.
