The loft is pretty ridiculous, the beams are so low that all night I could hear people hitting their heads on the beams, I did it myself a few times. If they could somehow change the beam structure it would be much friendlier up there. Also, there were not enough lockers for all of the beds, which made keeping items safe an issue. I liked the people and the atmosphere downstairs, but definitely recommend splurging for a real dorm room and avoiding the loft.

Hi , Thank you for your comment. We are actually waiting on the permit to change the roof and finish to remodel the loft which as you said is super basic right now. Unfortunately we have been waiting for this permit for over a year, here in Antigua any remodeling you want to do is very difficult. Open a window, adding bathrooms or anything else… basically, need to be authorize. That is the way authorities by law keep the city the way it is and has been for 500 years. We are looking forward to this so the loft can be as nice and comfortable than the deluxe dorms. In the meantime we are aware that the loft is still on the process and that is why is offered with a super cheap price, breakfast included. We apologize for the inconvenience and give the people the opportunity to choose once they arrive if they change their mind between pay a few extra dollars and be more comfortable in the deluxe or save some money if they are staying for one night or two. It is always the people´s choice.

Staff truly feels welcome - they remember all guests names! As the name suggests, this is a good place to party, and not a great place to get a good night's sleep. Be willing to stay up past midnight every night, and if you want to nap, make sure you can sleep with pounding bar music.

TRAVELERS BEWARE! They are running a scam on travelers whereby they take your passport when you check in, keep a "tab" for any food and drinks you've had, and then tack on charges for alcohol that you never ordered. They did it to my friend, and when she confronted them, they said they couldn't do anything about it. When I checked out a few days later and found that they had added a bunch of beers, rum and tequila to the bill (I never ordered ONE drop of alcohol there), I knew it was a scam!

Hi . We are very sorry this had happened. A business like a hostel is never an easy to run. Employees come and go as fast as traveler since is not easy to find local people that speak Spanish and English. We rely on volunteers. Sometimes we have to change workers almost every three months; there are a lot of good things that comes with it but also some bad. When we just hired someone, they will never show you if they are honest or not at the beginning. As a responsible owner, we keep always our eyes open to any actions of our staff that might take advantage of our costumer. Due a couple of complains like yours it took us a very, very short time to fired the guy who was taken advantage and adding a few of his drinks to our costumer tab. Yours as I know were deducted from the tab when you find out, we took responsability for them.

the staff at jungle party are absolutely fantastic! they were incredibly helpful and really fun. however, the security cameras in the bedrooms are really creepy. the new loft space upstairs is crowded and incredibly hot during the day and freezing at night. the hostel definitely needs more bathrooms added. although i found the facilities to be incredibly poor and there were many hidden costs the staff are so wonderful i would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a great time in antigua.

liked a lot of the people I was staying with, and the hostel could be quite fun at night before going out. Dorms are a little ridiculous, ghastly hot during the day, cold at night. 30 mattresses on the floor in a loft. Lockers are only for people have keys and there are about 10. No kitchen. Only 3 showers, 4 toilets, only a problem when busy. Staff is nice. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW ABOUT THE TAX! There is something like 30% on top of your bill. Place to rest head = good, expect more = bad.
