This hostel was ok but we faced a few problems: First, we had to pay the full price of our room because the lady at the front desk (who only spoke spanish) didn't realize that Hostelworld makes us prepay 10% of the room, so that sucked. Plus, there's no tv and no internet (wifi but it never worked for us) and Ollantaytambo is pretty dead at night so we were bored out of our minds before bed. However, it was clean, with hot showers, and a decent breakfast which is more than you can say elsewhere!

This hotel is too expensive for the facilities he offers. In Ollantaytambo you can find easely much better and for half the price!!! (60 sol a too star hotel instead of the 34 dollars here). Try the Orchids "Orquidees hotel" very good quality/price and cosy.

This is the most expensive hostel we paid in Peru. It is in a good location, but it is on the main road where lots of cars and buses are going by all the time. Some of the staff do not speak English but they will get you someone else if you wait. On the night we stayed, there was no hot water for showers, they did give some of the money back to us.

Hi and thank you for staying at KB Tambo. You are correct about the hot water, although it is not a question of time of day or anything like that. The town of Ollantaytambo is redoing the road next to us and has the main water pipe to this end of town shut off. We are one of the few hotels in town with over 1500 liters of water tanks installed so that even when the town has no water at all (which happens frequently) we have full water for several days. Unfortunately we have learned these tanks do not provide enough pressure to properly activate our hot water system. We do not use the cheap, dodgy electric shower heaters that produce warm water, we use a gas on demand system that provides very very hot water 24 hours a day, even with there is no electricity in town (also often :) We apologize that you had this problem. They expect to be done within the week, and we meanwhile have simply closed that part of the hotel that receives its water from that water main. thanks, KB

Great location for the mini bus to Cusco & train to MP. We stayed in a private double which was clean & spacious. Breakfast is basic, 1x coffee & 2 slices of bread (no refills) which was a bit poor £25 a night. Wifi is ample for such a tiny town. Staff were pleasant. Tours to Moray is cheaper if u just get a mini bus / taxi who will wait for u.

A very nice place but make sure the staff understand the deposit system when paying at the end as seems to be some confusion. Also beware if staying straight after a trek as there was no hot water at 9pm. Otherwise a great place!!

Simple hostel. Stayed in the double bed room out the back which was fine. Nothing special but would stay here again.

Usual Peruvian excuse on the rain causing poor connectivity of the wifi. Excellent view of the ruins at roof level. Walking distance to the ruins, plaza and railway station (10 minutes). Ensuite bathroom has no exhaust. We had to open the room door that faces the courtyard for ventilation. Probably we would rate it higher if breakfast were included from value for money point of view. Generally okay for one sleep.

Thank you for your comment. We actually do include a free continental breakfast for all guests, as well as free WiFi. We did want to mention that internet connectivity here in the high mountains of a developing country is definitely not as quality as it is from where most travelers live. This is a problem that hotels in all price ranges here in Ollantaytambo manage as best they can, and hope travelers remember that not quite all the world is fully connected and plugged in (yet!) Thanks again for the feedback. I am KB the owner and am here everyday working hard to make KB Tambo a great stay for your visit to Machu Picchu

Beautiful. Best hostel in Peru so far. Off the square but awesome location relative to the 2 best restaurants: Hearts Cafe and Puka Rumi. Near the artisan center, 10-min walk to train, close to ruins. Great view. Best hot shower! Comfortable beds. Clean, modern, pretty. Somewhat friendly staff, but not much interaction, so ok. Hotel feel. No communal computer or kitchen - bummer. Should invest in printer. Biggest complaint: MAJORLY annoying water leak in shower and no bathroom mat over wet tile.

Nice staff, great location, clean and tidy place to stay but when we booked this we were under the impression that it was a hostel which is not the case. There is no communal kitchen (although the staff were kind enough to provide utensils to allow me to prepare my food) but the main issue we had was that the place was completely closed during the day which for us was really inconvenient, especially given that the price for the room was a bit higher than other places in the same area.

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. Good feedback helps everyone.. We're not sure why you said our staff was nice, and the place clean and tidy (thanks!) but then gave us low scores for them anyway but we will keep trying and working hard. It seems your complaint is that the restaurant was closed for lunch? It is true that the restaurant was closed for lunch the day you were here, we are sorry for that. While they still served breakfast and dinner, they did close for lunch as we were shortstaffed so the staff could spend some time with their family during this very busy holiday season. We will try to make it more clear on our listing that we are not a backpacker hostal with a kitchen everyone communally cooks in. We are a "boutique hostel" :) with all private rooms, private baths with hot water 24/7, and a clean comfortable, modern atmosphere. Most of our guests enjoy sampling the local food and culture available in town, including ours. There are cheaper, backpacker hostels in town that have cooking kitchens for everyone to use, but we are not one of them. My name is KB from Colorado USA and I am onsite every day, working to make your vacation to Machu Picchu a memorable one. Thanks again for the feedback, we will change our listing to make the above clear.
