Good hostel with a great bar/restaurant/commons area on the main floor. Very eclectic and happening place to hang out at and is really popular with locals so its really easy to meet them and spend time with them if you wanted to. Food and drinks were excellent probably because of this (expensive, but that's just Iceland I guess). If you wanted privacy, you just have to go upstairs to the sitting areas on each floor which are equally as nice. Downside: the rooms can get pretty hot, humid & smelly

I thought KEX was just OK- first, charging for linens was odd (add on $9) and the breakfast (another $10) was absurdly overpriced for just some bread/spreads and coffee. The place seems to be run as a restaurant/bar first, hostel second- with my room being on the same floor as the bar, I didn't feel like I was in a hostel so much as a back room. Still, everything was clean at least and location is fine. But I was definitely turned off by the extra expenses and the apathetic staff.

Really cool, amazing bar and fun easygoing atmosphere. Went there as a solo traveler and made friends and felt safe. I had a great time. The one downside was the wifi was super slow! HOWEVER, who needs that much internet when you're in ICELAND. The wifi thing was a bit annoying but didn't take anything away from this awesome hostel and amazingly helpful staff.

The staff was incredible!!! They were SO helpful and friendly! I could not have asked for a better experience in Reykjavik, largely in part thanks to them. I am so appreciative of all the help and advice they were able to provide. They were also very fun and kind to talk to. I loved it!

Well priced hostel in a good location. Facilities are appropriate but lack of items in kitchen and staff aren't particularly happy about helping you with this task. Also seemed somewhat understaffed, complaining that its because they have around 140 beds which is why it takes a bit longer. Bar downstairs which I think is a separate entity is very expensive but a reasonable place to sit and relax and meet people. However cheap place to stay with decent wifi, worth if your a budget traveler.

We really enjoyed our stay at KEX. The location is very close to the bustling main street in Reykjavik as well as the waterfront. The rooms were very secure with ID card access only to prevent others from getting in. The floors of the bathrooms were a little slippery when wet, but nothing a little precaution can't cure. The lounge area was welcoming and had great character. We were in a co-ed room for 6 but were the only two occupants, and were still only charged the original rate!

It was a really cool hostel that has a common room that doubled as a bar. When out in this area in the evening it lost the hostel feel(with many locals) but made up for it with a great bar and also quite often live music, which was really great as well.

really a good hostel, very well managed with friendly staff. Breakfast is a bit too expensive. Its better to do self catering or to go to the nearby subway for breakfast.
