I LOVE Kex. I'm definitely staying there next time I'm in Iceland. Once you get over the eerily dim lighting, it's a great place to relax or chat with friends. Plenty of common space, good kitchen, within walking distance of most sites. My favourite thing about Iceland is the swimming pools, all geothermal. Sundhöll swimming pool is just a few blocks away, and it's good, but Laugardalslaug is bigger and better, and of course Blue Lagoon is the best. City pools are just 550 kr (BL is 10x that).

The best hostel we have stayed in without a doubt. Fantastic value for money! Particular high points are the stunning mountain/sea views, friendly staff who help organise excellent tours from the door and the bar area which serves delicious food. Stay here!

Not exactly a party hostel. Good place though to meet people and find out activities to do in Iceland.

Good (but windy:) location close to the main street and supermarket. Clean rooms, but in 6-bed dorm only 3 lockers. Restaurant downstairs, common kitchen not too clean.... Slim walls, but comfortable room and nice roommates. Could go again!

Very good in ways: help w booking, bar/restaurant, on the bay/ blocks from main strip, friendly fellow travelers.. Drawbacks were gross bathrooms by days end, disjointed shared per floor kitchens.

We've been travelling for 18 months around Europe, and this is THE best hostel we've ever stayed in. If you're having doubts about anything, you're wrong. This hostel is awesome.

The KEX hostel is an AMAZING hostel. It's stone work and moody lighting and amazing bar and kitchen totally made our stay at Christmas. The staff were also amazing at calling round for us and arranging a few extra tours when some of our other plans fell through. Totally recommend.

i had a great stay at Kex but had a few issues with tours and staff not knowing what was going on with these because of Christmas, actually wasted a day because i got the wrong information. Also having to pay extra for a duvet was a bit odd and a few of my friends struggled with the fact there were no computers for use. Other than that everything was great, the restaurant and bar were top notch.

This place values looking and being 'cool and hipster' over the comfort and enjoyment of its guests. It is cold and dark with no loungeroom because, and I quote, "tv's aren't organic enough for kex". They have an overpriced bar that is open to the public and that is the only common area to sit, they value these customers more than the hostel guests. You also have to pay about $6 for a blanket and pillow. unless you are hipster, stay somewhere else.

The KEX was great, I can't really fault it except the bunk beds were noisy, even just rolling over. The decor and facilities were 2nd to no hostel I've stayed in before. I also found it priced really well even compared with other hostels of a lesser standard. The view from the rooms looked over the water and mountains. And the food in the kitchen may be expensive to eat at every day, but was absolutely delicious! The breakfast could be a bit better value or choice. But all in all real nice.

It's a lovely hostel. Very nicely decorated, clean and super friendly staff. The only down side is the fact that the hostel charges for sheets and blanket and this extra is not mentioned on the hostel description/policies.

I would prefer the rooms to be better lit. A tour company I booked a tour with called to cancel a tour, but the reception staff did not inform us because he said "I couldn't find you". I thought since he had our details, he could have simply left note. We were waiting outside of the hostel for half an hour just to find out that our tour was cancelled.

Kex was a great place to stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was warm and cozy, and the location was great. They have a bar that a lot of locals came to, and because I went around Christmas, there was a local band playing jazzy Christmas carols. They have kitchens which make staying in and cooking very easy, and helps save you money. The only problem I had with the place was that it was fairly cold.

The atmosphere is sublime. Everything from the rooms to the bar is beautifully designed and artistic. The bar is a great place to hang out, and the music events that went on in gym & tonic were memorable. I will recommend to anybody travelling to Reykjavik and hope to return. Thank you.

A real cool, quirky hostel with excellent food, to the extent that locals eat in the restaurant every evening. All the facilities any traveller requires. Staff can book all the trips and buses etc that you may require also. Definately one of the nicest and coolest places i have stayed in 16 months of travelling around the world. 5* for a Hostel for sure!
