Its a cheap hostel not a hotel mate. Get into the lobby and socialise with everyone else (where there is wifi) or pay more and stay in a hotel room all to yourself and you can have as much wifi as youd like. Isn't that the point of a hostel to socialise/talk/cheap accommoation/info and to meet people??

It would help to know beforehand that there was a major renovation. Getting to the room was damgerous and the room was very dusty. We liked the city but it was the worst hostel sine we started our trip( we've stayed in four). Maybe close while renovating?

The staff was very friendly and a great help when I needed recommendations for places to eat or places to go. The hostel is fairly convenient to get to by bus from the train station and I enjoyed my stay. I found that during peak times, the shower did run out of hot water, especially in the morning, but showering at night alleviated this problem and the water was toasty warm.

The staff were very friendly! Gave our group lots of advice about what to see in Kaifeng. They really made the hostel worth staying in. We decided this would be a great place in Summer. It's very cold in Winter and you need lots of layers to sleep in. There was little to no hot water our whole stay (3 days). There is a nice courtyard you can sit out and have coffee in when the sun appears. Generally a good place in stay in the area. Very central. Just wrap up warm!

This must be a very nice and enjoyable place in summer, but definitely not while it is freezing outside. They've got no heating in the whole hostel. Still, the stuff was very friendly and helpful!

The shower didn't have hot water and the rooms were FREEZING. The heater didn't work in the room--I had to sleep in all my winter clothes just to stay warm. The staff were nice in the lobby when I asked questions, and they let me leave my bags in the hostel while I went sightseeing for the day.

Thanks for the comments. Just cant please some people! Mate, its -15C in Kaifeng during winter, the construction in China leaves a lot to be desired compared to Western buildings. This is not the big 3 tourist cities in China (Shanghai, Beijing or Xian) we can only do what we can with the things available to us. This hostel doesnt pretend to be the Ritz or even a hostel in Beijing, we are just a simple back packers for $7 a night in a dorm bed. I still have to pay rent, electricity, salary, permits, the list goes on. $7 a night is the cheapest i can do, in fact im loosing money at $7 a night. You were offered a large heater for the dorm room and were told you could pay the extra $10 to move into a private room with AC but you didnt want to spend the money, instead you choose to stay by your heater in a dorm room and insisted you were ok. Please do not travel through north China during winter if you expect to stay outside of the large tourist cities, pay $7 and yet have the comforts that a 3 or 4 star hotel offers. Trust me, they charge a lot more then $7 or even $17 a night. Thanks for the comments.

The staff here is the warmest and most helpful of any hostel we've visited. While the facilities aren't the prettiest, the location and price were ideal. We came during the low season, and the bar was not stocked and kitchen closed. Also note that this hostel is quite cold in winter; the hot water worked one day out of four. Regardless, if you are coming to Kaifeng and need a cheap room, the staff here make up for the shortcomings of the facilities.
