We were highly satisfied with our stay at Kalulu. Nice, friendly staff. Nice, hot showers. Nice, chilly pool. Nice, central location. Nice, comfortable beds. Nice, tasty food. Nice! Def recommend people to stay there. And, one can go out at night and party, as long as one has company (a bodyguard) who knows the area and culture. We went out, and we're two young adult fairly attractive females, and although we were hassled at the club by every man in there, we had a great time!

After reading all positive comments, I found this Hostel very unsafe as many local Zambian men were allowed in the compound at night to party at the bar. They hostel management left early that night and left many of the guest feel extremely unsafe, as the dorm cannot be closed from the inside. Furthermore, the hostel was dirty and went through a renovation, making the whole compound look and sound like a construction site. The location is good, but like anywhere in Africa, don't go out at night.

We had a nice stay in a full bed ensuite. No fan, which would have been nice just to drown out the noise outside. During the hot season I can imagine it gets pretty warm in there. Friendly staff, location a little bit of a walk to the bus depot and such. Not much character, but we would stay again.

Showers were very hot and that is great for a trip in africa, but wifi was very poor, kept saying we had an invalid profile and we kept having to go and getting reinstaed (not great when you paying for wifi). Also had no toilet paper for the whole afternoon which again is poor form. Staff were also average, not overly friendly and not always helpful

The few negative reviews for Kalulu are completely unjustified. We found the staff more than accommodating. The grounds are kept in good working order. We stayed there during a renovation project, but unlike the other reviewer, were not bothered by "construction noise". As for security, the bar does have a charming mix of both travelers and locals. My friend and I found the locals very engaging and most of them are close friends of the owner and his wife; definitely not security risks.

Great place. Bar attracts lots of local people. Self-cooking kitchen, lockers, good beds, swimming pool, internet... Everything you need. Residential area though, not much within walking distance of the hostel.

The staff were very accommodating of some schedule changes resulting from train delays. The site is very nice, and a nice central location. walking distance to the central bus station.

A great hostel for a stay in Lusaka. One of their greatest assets is their open air bar which is well attended by local friends of the owners and business people, as well as the backpackers. It is a great opportunity to talk with the people of Lusaka from the comfort of your own home. Bring bednets for the bunk rooms.

Had a fantastic stay at Kalulu Backpackers, location was perfect 5 minutes bus to Arcades and Manderhill shopping malls and a 5 minute walk to the new Levy Junction Mall. We were made to feel very welcome and even made a few friends while we were staying here. Anyone staying in Lusaka needs to book Kalulu will be staying here now everytime we stay in Lusaka. Thanks again for a great time Clio.

Nice place in Lusaka, walking distance from bus stations. Sort of cool and creepy at the same time to see the rabbits jumping around the grass :) The bar also acts as a 'pub' for locals that go there to drink so it can get noisy at night, still... I reccomend Kalulu for a night or 2.
