Don't expect to much at all from this hostel. Matt, the guy who should be the manager, looks more like someone who is backpacking and chilling, then he is a person you would go to if you have any questions or what so ever.

Very unclean and smelly room, could almost not breath in there. Staff were not present the whole morning when I was to check out (reception closed though it was supposed to be open) so I just had to leave the keys at the counter. Would not stay there again.

The staff was very friendly and there was a good ambiance, free breakfast, you can rent bikes for free, free laundry... BUT the beds were not really confortables and there were BED BUGS! And I was bitten everywhere.. This is the only reason why I will not go back there...

Very familiar atmosphere, nice staff, you can have a lot of fun in this hostel, but it's not a typical party hostel

Relaxed atmosphere is the biggest advantage of this hostel. People are friendly and helpful - can get some useful information about sightseeing in Sydney. Had a BBQ with other travellers and really enjoyed that. Although the hostel is situated in Surry Hills it is no that far from CBD and major beaches. Altogether place is cool, clean and almost everything is working. Fine by me.

They only take cash, my bed was broken, and they lost the key to my locker. The staff was helpful the first night, but after that they sucked. The office is never open because they are either still in bed, or watching a movie in the lounge. They offer free breakfast, but don't always have the supplies. Most of the people in the hostel are working so there we not a lot of people to go do things with. They also do not enforce quiet time after 10

Hi everyone, I was in the Kangaroo Bak Pak Hostel for a few days and I recommend it to everyone who wants to have a save and clean place to sleep and to meet nice people from all over the world while staying in sydney. Its close to Central Station but its not a party hostel. Still there are a few pubs;nightlife isn't far away either :) you have free breakfast including everything you need and a lot of fun during the movie nights. But the best thing is definetly that it feels like home.

At Kangaroo Bakpak you meet the nicest people in the world! Close to central, clean, save, free breakfast(cornflakes, toast, milk, butter, jam, coffee and tea!), friendly staff!! I enjoyed the movie sessions and the BBQ nights in summer. For me this hostel was the perfect choice and I will definitely come back!

Some daft comments regarding security in this hostel. Most secure hostel I've stayed in. Front door requires a key and a code to open. All rooms have lockers to store your clothing that can be locked and an additional safe type locker emebedded into the wall beside each bed for valuables. Good location for getting everywhere.
