The location is great, close to the beach and a few blocks from the main street with shops, bars, & restaurants. I felt safe the whole time. It was relatively quiet. There are only 2 bathrooms for about 20 beds so there was some waiting and they were often dirty with no toilet paper. The Lockers are spacious but the mattresses aren't comfortable. There's no kitchen use and tiny common areas. The wifi is good enough to use the rooms. Overall it's good value but very basic.

This hostel is only about the location. The rest is very average! Very small hostels with barely a common area. I used it just to sleep and that was ok.

The value that i payed to stay in Karisma does not worth it at all. Except for the location, this hostel is the poorest that i have been in all my life. The people of the hostel just want to make money, they are not interested in transmit confort to their hosts

The hoster was extremely dirty, and there was mosquitos inside the beds. Some had to slep on a veranda. Horrible place.

I really enjoyed my stay at Karisma! Very good location and friendly people. The hostel is very small and basic. It was very crowded during my stay so the bathroom (although cleaned every day) was rather dirty. Also my locker was broken and during the day the main door was open so anyone could easily walk in. The hostel changed owners during my stay and things seem to improved literally overnight so hopefully the new management will address the security and cleanliness issues.

very nice hostel, it really felt like home and in one of the best locations you can ask for in rio.

Ipanema is good place to stay... The hostel is located in a small hostel street! The very small rooma were very expensive during the World cup! No safe in the room!

Decent rio hostel. Expensive but understandable.

The rooms were very cramped, and even the common area had too much furniture but not enough space for people to sit. For the facilities provided, the price was too high (maybe due to FIFA World Cup season). There is no 24-hour desk which is strange in a city known for its late night parties. We were told "Ring the bell if you come back after 11 pm, and 'hopefully' someone would open the door."

Great location close to beach. only downside would be number of toilets. only two toilets for whole hostel. anyway loved the big screen tv

Really nice people, small place but good athmosphere. It was expensive, but i know it was in World Cup.

Good location. Staff supports 24/7 which is great. Very easy to come and go (both good and a bad thing). Slept through the free breakfast every morning so not sure what was available. Linens were not the best, but for the $$ the place was extremely affordable and easy to get to and from all the key areas for visitors in Rio. Traveled alone and was able to meet others to hang out/go out at night with.

really good area to stay - close to beach & lake - excellent breakfast - transfer to & from airport good with English spoken by owner/operator helped a great deal

Very nice staff, seems your home in Rio de Janeiro.

Nice hostel, a little frustrating it only has 2 bathrooms - I had to wait on numerous occasions for a shower etc.

This hostel was very basic but comforatble and clean. The breakfast were really good with lots of fresh fruit, and its only a 5 minute walk to impanema beach. Very central to the Impanema area. Staff were very helpful, and showers were hot! A little frustrating that wifi hardly worked.

Arriving at the hostel, staff were prompt, friendly and helpful. The room seemed small, but everything was clean, the AC worked very well. The location was great, a minute from the beach and other fun places in Ipanema. That was very pleasant. I'd recommend the Karisma Hostel to anyone and we would very happily stay there again!

Our room didn't have air conditioner. Just two bathrooms for the hostel. (about 20 beds) There's no bar and the common areas are uncomfortable. Staff only speaks Portuguese.

Karisma is an excellent place to stay. The location is superb, being only 3 blocks from the beach, and in an area where it's east to meet other travellers. The staff are especially helpful and friendly, whether it's your first time in Rio or you're an old hand. The breakfast was great, there being lots of fruit, as well as the expected bread, coffee and jam. Thanks Karisma, for making me feel right at home in one of the world's most exciting cities.

Best hostel ever! I had an amazing time here. You really feel at home. Unlike other chain hostels where you have to use a card-key to every door you walk in, this is a small cozy home-like hostel. It´s just like a small group of people living together, Big Brother-like. Perfect to meet new people and make friends. No, really! we even have a Whatsapp group called "Karisma" and visit each other until now. Awesome location! One block from an active nightlife area, specially gay.
