This Hostel is much more than a place where you can sleep and prepare your food. What I liked most: From the first second the feeling was like coming home to your granny. The hole house was smelling like warm jam, you got warm hot water bottles for the night, the nice and warm atmosphere because of the oven and the old wooden floor in the living room. Its such a peaceful place without disturbing noices. Very unusual for a backpacker was the well equiped kitchen. You can find there sharp knifes,

outstanding nice hostel, we booked a double room and could choose. The owner was very friendly and helpful in all belongings. Very much to be recommended!

We stayed 3 nights at Karma Backpackers, and had a great time. Vera and her husband are very friendly and helpfull, it didn't feel like staying at a hostel, it felt more like visiting friends! Kessel is a good base for exploring the fantastic hikes in the Northern Drakensberg area and Vera is more than glad to advice you to the best hikes. She also makes great jam :-) I would recommend this hostel to any traveller, except for backpackers who are looking for a place to party.

If you're in the Northern Drakensberg Mts, this is the place to stay. The owners are friendly and helpful, their homemade yogurt and jams are delicious, and it's more of a bed & breakfast feel rather than a hostel.

Wonderul stay at the Karma Backpackers. A delightful house with wonderful staff. Vera Ann and Luccio were excellent hosts. I highly recommend this lodge for someone desiring a location near the Drakensburg in SA.

The only down side to this hostel is that it is in a small town with not much to offer if you wish to eat out or do some last minute shopping. You need a car to get anywhere and see the rest of the Drakensburg, so this shouldn't be an issue for most people visiting this area.
