The rooms were ok, but the mattress and pillows were rather uncomfortable. At times, there was not hot water, even though the staff said it would be available 24 hrs. Otherwise, the staff were very helpful, arrange a driver for excursions, and offer excellent coffee in the morning. Staff are friendly, accomodaet to the best of their ability and create a modest hostel for the needs of people passign through or those wishing to get a taste of the old city. The Staff were very friendly, and while the facilities are basic, they are clean. We traveled during the government \'crackdown\' on Xinjiang, so there were daily visits by the Public Safety Office to find out who checked in each day. The Public Safety Official (the \"leader\" - not necessarily others) is a jerk and is particularly skeptical of Americans, Germans, Turks, and various others.The Staff were very friendly, and while the facilities are basic, they are clean. The staff is very nice and really seems to try to help. I booked this one for 6 days, but broke the reservation and left after 1 night because I did not like the place (I lost my 10% deposit made with the reservation here on Hostelworld). It is a dumpy compound with the rooms kind of like dungeons, with no ventilation at all in many of them and depressing. The baths are marginally acceptable only. I don't recommend even though the staff is great. The staff is very nice and really seems to try to help.
