Very well located and very friendly staff. Additional tourist information in English would help. Really enjoyed our stay when minus 20 degrees outside, warm and cosy inside.

Kazy Hostel is great, not only the cheapest accomodation that you're likely to find in Haerbin but also the best for backpackers. Literally just 200m from the main drag and the bus to take you all the way to the ice festival stops right outside the door. The staff is really nice, we could only book for one person for one of the nights and they were really understanding and gave me a decent bed in the corridor regardless which was REALLY helpful. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

I stayed in one of the dorms and it was just fine. For the dorms, the bathrooms are squatters and it's BYOTP (bring your own toilet paper), the shower's hot water was a bit temperamental, and there was no hot water in the washroom for washing one's face in the morning, etc. Since it was artic-adventure-cold outside, it would be nice to have more dependable hot water. The rooms were warm though and the place, being in an old synagogue, has a lot of character and attracts an interesting crowd.

Perfect location, right next to the central street, Zhong Yang Lu. The old synagogue vibe gives it an interesting atmopshere. However I would voice a complaint about cleanliness. The dorm rooms were hardly ever cleaned, even when guests checked out and new ones came in. My friend even had an allergic reaction to the bed sheets. Also, toilets and showers were at the end of the un-heated corridor (ie. it was pretty freezing)! But overall, not bad value for money and I had a good stay in Harbin.

If not because I have joined their tour to snow village and don't want to change hostel, I will not stay here. Everything is dirty, toilet, shower room, dorm room are not clean. I feel a bit moist from the bed sheet, not dried completely. One of the staff is very rude. But one thing is good about the location, close to centre. I am quite sure the owner do it just for money, not for traveller. With this historical building, I think they should make use of it. Now they just waste it in this way.

Kazy was recommended to me by a friend. As far as character and location are concerned,Kazy is No1#.I booked a twin room. I've travelled China & Kazy has to be one of the dirtiest rooms I've ever stayed in.The floor were putrid and the bathroom had mould, hair and a foul stench. Closing the door didn't help. The shower pressure in both my private& the public shower terrible.Food was very expensive and poor, encouraging me to eat outside. I wont stay here again. One staff member was very rude.

Staff really tried to help me when the hostel was very busy at CNY. Although ppl complain about cold showers in review, i didnt have issue as i avoided taking shower at busy times like 8pm. If you take shower in the mornings, it is very hot and nice. The location is mostly walking distance to main sites, even to Taiyang Dao (Sun Island) which is across the frozen Songhua river and it is an experience to walk across!

Very good staff and great atmosphere. The location is also unbeatable, especially if you are planning on hitting up the Ice Festival. Sun Island and Zhaolin Park are easily within walking distance and there is a free bus service that takes you to Ice and Snow World. Staff doesn't kick you out of the common area at night so you can stay up for a nightcap as long as you don't go too crazy. All in all, a great place to stay in Harbin!

Location was amazing. Spent 2 nights in a dank, windowless, lockless single room above the laundry facilities/showers before paying extra to get into a room with more circulation. Staff was good - put on a New Years dumpling party for us - but not so willing to provide information. Cleanliness was questionable in comparison to the other hostels I have stayed in China which were sparkling.

gorgeous building, great location, shame about the old filthy carpet in our twin private room....it was so dirty, if i vomited on the carpet, you wouldn't even notice. also, i would like to point out most of the reception staff was fantastic. but don't bother with the long haired asian lady who's on in the mornings, she was rude, obnoxious and was annoyed if we asked her more than 1 question at a time. she also gave terrible and incorrect directions to sights.

Annoying they didn't put us in the same room. We had 2 boys and 2 girls and they said they didn't have mixed dorms, but when we got there they had put 1 boy and 2 girls in a room and the other boy in another room. Then the second night they moved the girls out so there were 2 girls in a room, 1 boy in another and 1 boy in another for the next 2 nights.

The water in the shower was not hot... and when you are in Haerbin, you really want hot water. My ONLY complaint.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. They speak good English and had lots of good ideas about how to deal with the cold and maximise the options available in Harben. The hostel is easy to find and in a great location. I am Australian living in China and spend a lot of time in hostels; the size of the room I had in this one was excellent and it was very warm. Beds are hard, but hey this is China. Make sure you do the City Tour, its good value, see the sights and stay warm.

One of the best hostels i've been in China. The staff is so friendly, helpful and speaking great English. Could make the second floor rooms a bit more clean as it is at the rooms downstairs.

We went to Harbin in the middle of January for the Ice & Snow Festival, and I was a little afraid it might be cold, even inside, with temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius below zero, but the hostel was very well heated :) The dorm we stayed in was one room, but split between two levels, with 5 people sleeping downstairs and 3 people upstairs. It was quite spacious, but cozy at the same time.

Great place to stay. Staff is great. Because the hostel was once a synagogue, the place has a unique atmosphere to it. It isn't the cleanest hostel that I've stayed in - and there is a unique (sometimes musty) smell to the place - but I enjoyed my time there. It's perfectly located in Harbin for everything that you would want to do. For destinations further away, the hostel has detailed transportation information (bus routes, etc), and their tour packages are overall pretty good.

Amazing location and very helpful staff. We also got a pretty good deal on tickets for the ice festival (which included a shuttle to and from). However, the place itself wasn't stellar. It's cool that it is in an old synagogue, but the upkeep isn't great. The carpet is old and looks as if it's never been cleaned before. Also, the bathroom situation isn't ideal- we had to go downstairs to use the bathroom (where we found squat toilets and cold water). But, you get what you pay for.
