Another nice stay at rainbow. Can't beat the food, staff, and location, but again, I'd stress that the only room worth getting is the private with air con. As a budget traveler, I don't need much in a room, but in Bangkok air con is not just a luxury.

If you're looking for a small, non-smelly place that offers a bed & a roof over your head at a good location (Kaosan Rd., backpacker paradise), then this is certainly a nice, affordable option. Just be aware that this is exactly what you get - and nothing more. Tiny room, stone-hard mattress, plastic doors, wonky lock, leaking toilet, loud at night, prison cell charm. Staff & Indian restaurant were nice though, wifi was strong on all floors.

My room was like solitary confinement; mouldy, no windows, dirty and the toilet was broken. This hostel leaves a lot to be desired.

Not recommend the hostel and cheap sim and is well located, however put me in a room without a window minima, horrible, musty and the bed had a mattress hard, it looked more like a plank .... cleaning pessima memsmo value found by a suite with fan, windows and beds and mattresses otimos, just changing hostel was the worst hostel of the trip.

It's not the best place to stay in Khao San but its cheap and right near the action. The indian food in the restaurant is AMAZING! The staff are friendly and it's open 24hours incase you arrive early hours or stay out drinking! You get what you pay for, it's not luxury but its right for the price

Rainbow khaosan is a no-frills hostel in a really good location. I've stayed there a couple of times now, and would not recommend the dorm room. For a few extra dollars (if you're sharing with another person especially) the private room is nothing to write home about but the ac works great and you couldn't ask for a better staff or food downstairs. When staying that close to khaosan, going to sleep early is rarely on the agenda, so a basic room is really all you need.

Despite having our own padlock for our room's door, both my girlfriend and I had our emergency credit cards stolen from our luggage. Fortunately the theives left everything else. The room was cramped and seedy, complete with blood stain on the wall. The ceiling was sagging, and walking through the extremely narrow hallway there was a moldy drip coming from one of many holes and tears. We barely interacted with the staff, although when we did have to it was difficult, both parties confused.

No individual keys to the dorm so it was basically unlocked all the time. Staff were OK but nothing special. Bathroom on 1st floor not acceptable, no way to keep anything dry. 3rd floor bathrooms better. Mattress really is hard as a rock. Beds are noisy and sway whenever top bunker moves. Electric points verging on dangerous. Would not stays again.

Ask for a room with AC since most rooms don't have windows and fan rooms are moldy/too hot

they could fix the holes in the walls at least. There was a hole in the bathroom ceiling , in which a couple of cats were sitting all night long and moaning. That really scared me. loool

Great location & good staff that were very helpful when I wanted to stay an extra night. Their Indian restaurant is also lovely and worth a visit while staying. Cannot really complain at all.

Scummy room, no toilet seat, stains and mould all over the walls, water dripping out of the ceiling, whole place smelt damp and with no window could not sort this out. Bed felt like a slab of granite. I'm not a real fussy traveler but this room was depressing. Worth paying a few dollars more to get something nice.

What to say, maybe the character of the building isn't amazing "you get what you pay for" but apart from that the staff is very helpful and kind and just across the road there is Khoasan road where the night life takes place.

If you're thinking about staying here, don't. The rooms were as I imagined a Thai prison cell. Absolutely the worst hostel I've stayed at, the staff are moderately friendly but that only goes so far. The beds are equivalent to sleeping on a pile of bricks. The rooms have black mold in them, and they smell like something died-not to mention the bugs. If you book this place you've made a mistake
