PROS - friendly staff - great location - pub is quite cool - each person in the had a power outlet and night light CONS - Room (first floor) was quite dirty, not cleaned once in two nights - Ensuite WC was dirtier, never cleaned and lacked any hooks for towels/items. I showered in the shower room (much cleaner)

Nice one night stay here. Staff was helpful and gave tokens for us to use in lockers so that we could store our bags for free until check in. Location is pretty stellar. Not far from the royal mile but the walk is uphill. Grass market is a neat area, be sure to check out the old cemetery just up the road- it was started in the 1500s and great for anyone interested in history.

For the location, if you like being near pubs/bars/party area, this is the hostel for you! It is right on the grassmarket with lots of pubs in echo distance away. If you are a light sleeper, however, you will most likely not sleep well. People are out later at night and do make a lot of noise. The other issue I had is that for the money I paid, I got nothing more from what I paid at Castle Rock, except a walk up a hill to get to the bus station, and the price was significantly more.

This was my first hostel experience and I didn't realize how awesome they really were until I arrived at my next hostel. Kick ass is truly an amazing place with great vibes and an excellent location. Clean showers, great bar/lounge, the cafe downstairs is adorable. Will definitely recommend to anyone going to Edinburgh. Thank you so much Kick Ass!

good gostel, really convenient. Everything was made so that you feel good. It is a very big hostel, so if you look for a calm and convivial atmosphere, this is not the right hostel. Common room looks sometimes like a night club...people are yelling in the corridors at 11 pm... if you want to make big parties, this is the place.

This hostel is very modern, but not cozy. They charge you for everything and the kitchen closes at 10pm (too early).

Modern hostel that reminded me of college dorms due to how big it was. The walking tour was great, and each bed has a light and outlet. Also good location! Enjoyed my stay.

Very good Hostel. Staffs were very friendly. I found the Scots to be a very cool bunch of people! Very relaxed and extremely helpful. The hostel has a cafe in the ground floor and a bar on the top floor (open till midnight). The showers and the restrooms are very neat. The rooms are ventilated properly. Location: It is a 15-20 min walk from coach station but the directions provided in the website is more than enough to find the hostel. Would highly recommend!

Really awesome hostel. Tons of showers and toilets, never had to wait. Rooms were clean! This hostel is in the best location in the city, close to everything - right beside Edinburgh Castle. Depending on who you get, the free walking tour can be a hit or miss but regardless, they take you to the popular spots in town so you know how to find everything later on. The cafe in there is fairly inexpensive and you get deals on drinks in the bar. Free pool, ping pong & air hockey. Good environment! :)

Had an awesome experience here. The atmosphere is great with a lot of open free space to meet the other people staying there as well. You are in the heart of the city with everything at your finger tips!

it would be better if the bar would be open at least until 1!. and please a better spirit variety ("Glen" as a gin and premix for the long island icetea? ). the tabletennisbat and balls were broken. but apart from that everything has been worth it. great stuff and possibillities

Good hostel. But they try to sell the idea that they are the cheapest one but they charge you for a lot of things. To have an adaptor to charge your devices they don't lend it, they just sell it. The same for the lockers, you have to buy it. Otherwise, it's a good hostel. Not excellent but good enough.

Staff friendly and helpful. Bar games were cool and the bar area itself is really nice. The location is fantastic-right under the castle.
