Knockree Hostel is lovely, spacious and well-equipped with great staff and beautiful views over the countryside.. The location is perfect for hiking in the Wicklow Mountains.

It was a great hostel, reasonably priced and exactly where a Wicklow Way walker needs a stop for the night. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The only thing I noticed was out of order was that the bedroom doors did not close behind me. It wasn't a problem once I noticed and made sure to close them myself, but It would be better for security if they closed all they way on their own.

At arrival we wanted to drink a nice cold beer but that was not possible because of licensing-reasons but the lady in charge helped us to get a drink in a nearby village by calling a taxi: a good idea and thanks for the help!

Unlike English hostels, there was neither meals on offer or food on sale to cook. It's remote location rather stymied us.

We weren't impressed with the design of the rooms: - "wet room " concept means we were queuing up for a shower instead of having access to a shower block where 3 or 4 could shower at the same time - I couldn't have a pee whilst someone else was in the shower - No hot water in the washbasin meant we couldn't have a shave - with all that loft space, I bet the rooms are cold in winter.

The Knockree Hostel was a perfect place to start the 3 stages of the Wicklow Way we walked on 3, 4 en 5 september. There were not many people, so we had to make our own fun. But that was no problem. We enjoyed our stay. Good service, good accomodation. We would recommend The Knockree Hostel to friends. Thank you for your hospitality.
