It was a great hostel, reasonably priced and exactly where a Wicklow Way walker needs a stop for the night. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The only thing I noticed was out of order was that the bedroom doors did not close behind me. It wasn't a problem once I noticed and made sure to close them myself, but It would be better for security if they closed all they way on their own.

At arrival we wanted to drink a nice cold beer but that was not possible because of licensing-reasons but the lady in charge helped us to get a drink in a nearby village by calling a taxi: a good idea and thanks for the help!

Unlike English hostels, there was neither meals on offer or food on sale to cook. It's remote location rather stymied us.

Dear Bob, thank you for taking the time to review the hostel. I am sorry that our location was an issue for you. We do state on websites that we are rural and no shops close by. Hostelworld states * You are advised to bring your own food as no shops close by and meals facilities currently limited to breakfast. Closest shop Enniskerry, 7km * Meals are available to order in advance for groups of 9 or more; we do sell food for guests themselves to cook: this is a service we are expanding, please advise if you enquired at reception about this. We also arrange for cheap local cab services to transport guests to the local village to eat and the hostelries there provide a courtesy return trip to the hostel. I do hope that you were not completely put off and that you might take the time in the future to visit us again, where you will be assured of a warm welcome. Regards, Helen, Manager

We weren't impressed with the design of the rooms: - "wet room " concept means we were queuing up for a shower instead of having access to a shower block where 3 or 4 could shower at the same time - I couldn't have a pee whilst someone else was in the shower - No hot water in the washbasin meant we couldn't have a shave - with all that loft space, I bet the rooms are cold in winter.

Dear Richard, thank you for your comment. The room to which you were assigned has an en suite wet-room, but this is not typical of the hostel design, in fact nearly every room has a unique design, very few have the same layout and some have separate toilet and showering facilities. The building, because of all the loft spaces, is exceptionally well insulated, and in fact gets too warm when heating is running. We have a communal shower & toilet block. We have not received comment before about this particular room, so I will take it on board in future when assigning guests, and mention at check-in that they may also use the communal block. I hope this did not put you off staying again at Knockree, and should you visit us again please be assured of a warm welcome (and a different room!) Best Regards, Helen, Manager

The Knockree Hostel was a perfect place to start the 3 stages of the Wicklow Way we walked on 3, 4 en 5 september. There were not many people, so we had to make our own fun. But that was no problem. We enjoyed our stay. Good service, good accomodation. We would recommend The Knockree Hostel to friends. Thank you for your hospitality.
