The wifi was temperamental, but when your on a tropical island who cares right? However there seemed to be a double standard as to what was needed when you checked out and the 1000 baht key deposit was ridiculous. The toilets when the bins went emptied absolutely stank and the showers didn't have hooks for your clothes or towels. No common room which is a shame, but a marginal discount was offered at the bar opposite. Yes it's cheap but there are other hostels for 250/ 300 Baht a night

Owner Comment (Show)
When the government power is off our WiFi provider doesn't have an alternative power source as we do which causes problems. Check out is at 10am as people arriving to the island can then check into their beds as often they have had a long journey to get here. All key deposits are refunded on check out when you return the key. Our common areas are the restaurant/bar and pool area at DJL and also the stone tables and chairs outside. Quick tip - Don't sniff waste bins in Thailand.

This hostel is near the beach and the restaurants around sariee beach and everything is walkable however, there isn't a great atmosphere and no where to hang out in the hostel apart from your dorm. Not very clean but as bad as expected. The staff were helpful.

Very close to beach and you get discount if you dive with them. Rooms are simple but comfy wide bunk beds and a locker and shared bathroom, what more do you need?? :)

Clean, decent location. Good but not Great. Staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. They did not offer locks for the lockers, and you had to rent the blankets. Otherwise, very friendly and would recommend if you're in a pinch. There are better places not much more expensive on the island with better locations/services.

Thanks for the review, we don't offer locks on the lockers and so people have to use their own that way we don't have keys for the locks. If you lose you lock keys and need to get into the lockers then we do have a set of bolt cutters as this has happened a few times ;)

Great location and service. Shared faciliities kept clean- not much can be done about the rooms when we all leave our stuff everywhere but the cleaner made a great effort regardless! Information given to me by the lady on reception was great and it never felt like I was being a bother and having the man on the desk in the evening was reassuring- for safety reasons/if you locked yourself out the room there was always some one on hand. All in all I'm happy with what I had for the price I paid.

We stayed at Koh Tao Backpackers Hostel for 6 nights and enjoyed it. The staff is very nice and are willing to help you. This is a good choice for people travelling on a budget. Just make sure you read all of their signs on the walls if you get confused by anything.

Paid for my bed, was told that a blanket costs extra. They will only switch the air con on after 5pm. Apart from that, not too bad...

I did not like this hostel. It costed about 8 € and it is not value for money. Toilet was terrible dirty and licking all the time. They charge for extra bed line if you want to cover up. Towels costs 20 baht a day, although they do not give you a fresh one every day. No windows in rooms. Deposit for keys is 1000 baht, ridiculous... staff could be more friendly.

Owner Comment (Show)
I'm sorry you didn't feel the hostel was value for money, unfortunately the costs are higher on the islands than on the mainland. We don't recommend you lick the toilets at all to be honest, that's just strange. Yes we do charge for additional blankets and towels to cover their laundry fees as many people do have their own and so we don't add that onto the accommodation price so only those wishing to rent can do so and pay the additional charges. You can exchange your towels every day as I'm guessing you were told when you first rented one, as many people take their towels to the beach when they go swimming there. You were in the dormitory which doesn't have any external walls and so there are no windows to the outside of the hostel in that particular room, sorry that is just the way the hostel is built, we could have changed your room on the following day if you had made a request with the reception. Yes there is a key deposit of either 1,000 baht, a passport or a drivers license that we accept and you actually left a DRIVERS LICENSE not 1,000 baht so does this make your comment ridiculous? All of which are returned when you return your key upon checking out. There are 2 reasons for a key deposit of this size, firstly it ensures that people actually make the effort to look after their keys so the numbers of lost keys is reduced significantly meaning less lock replacements and better overall security and secondly it is a security that we have to ensure that we don't get people trying to run away without paying their bills, yes surprisingly even for small amounts of money some people do try to get out of paying for their stays at the hostel.

The main woman at the hostel is so nice, she even remembered my name and said hi to me when I walked past her. The hotel does really good deals with the diving school next door so I got all the nights for free when I was doing a diving course! The only negative of this hostel is that they charge you for everything- towels and even sheets! But overall I had a great time here.

By Thailand standards, I thought this was a really good hostel. Our room was clean and the air conditioning was fantastic. The toilets were super clean which is apparently hard to find in Thailand. The staff were nice and didn't mind being woken up at all hours of the day and night to help us out. Great location close to water. It was the cheapest place we could find and was good for the value.

The location is great and that is the only possitive thing next to hot showers noone needs at this temperatures. My bed was occupied until the evening,Everyone could walk into the hostel and the rooms were often open. After checkout in the morning we asked if we could leave our luggage until 5 pm&they said ok. when we returned at 4.45 noone was there, but a a message they would be back at 5.30&a number to call in emergency. so we called because we had a ship to catch, but noone answered the call.

Dirty, small and stinky hostel, rooms and bathrooms. It was the worst hostel of my hole travel. But if you don't go diving its maybe the cheapest option. They don't have a common area, so you only get to know the people of your room. I won't stay there again!

The hostel is really well located and they have AC but I was freaking freezing in my room because they dont give you blankets or anything to sleep with!

We do leave the AC remote in the room so that customers can adjust the temperature, however not everyone is the same and some people like to sleep with the AC maxed out whilst others prefer a more comfortable temperature. So if you do get stuck with someone who likes to sleep in an ice box we do have blankets for rent which start at 30 baht for 1-2 nights and get cheaper still if you rent them longer.

Overall good value for money, and the cheapest we could find on the island (some were £20+ per night compared to £7 here). Basic and small but does the job. Great location, friendly staff and decent wifi. Quite grubby - floor was dirty in the room, and showers/toilets were grimy (though showers re definitely hot, not like what some reviews say, you jut need to know how to work them!), with not even soap to wash your hands. A/C in the rooms, just about does the job and is better than nothing.

The staff here are amazing, they bend over backwards for you, speak good english and the main lady receptionist is full of useful information to get around and see all the island the cheapest way. Is a basic hostel and the wifi can sometimes be tempermental but your on a tiny island so everywhere has the same problems. You get discount on decent food at the davy jones diving school opposite and over there they dont try and hard sell you anything unlike big blue. Only con is no common room.
