A very well-designed, new, and clean hostel. Great location - easy to walk to Teramachi shopping district, Shijo (major bus interchange + train station) and Gion (old part of city with temples). Capsule beds were a good size, and made dormitory feel a lot more private than with bunks. Wifi internet was very convenient, but unreliable at times. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and some spoke perfect English. All-in-all, I recommend it and plan to stay here next time I'm in Kyoto.

Jalan-do has a great location near lots of Kyoto features and a friendly, helpful staff. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. The male dormitories are essentially rooms with 14 bunks, each with a locker and a curtain for privacy. Unfortunately, because of the setup, every sniffle and cough is public. However, the basement space has a respectable couple of rooms where people can meet and chat with each other.

Brand new place in March 2012, decor is modern. Entrance is on the first floor, sleep on the second, showers and toliets on the 3rd floor and breakfast in the basement, gets confusing. Staff were fantastic. Only thing really is it is not that close to Kyoto station.

Top notch hostel. It's super brand new and the staff are super nice folks. I didn't realize that it's a capsule style hostel which just add to its charm (did I mention it's brand new?). It's located at the most interesting area in Kyoto where temples, shopping paradise & food heavens are all in one major district. I ended up having a soba party just before New Year in the hostel where the staff provides free soba & free sake for everyone just before the countdown. Unforgettable experience.

I was surprised at all the brand-new, elaborately designed facilities. If you don\'t mind a bit small bed space and common space, this hostel is very comfortable. The location, the midst of Kyoto\'s biggest shopping area, is also a big advantage. By using subway to come here from JR station I could avoid Kyoto\'s infamous traffic jam and riding a packed public bus. My only request is to improve usage instruction for too elaborate shower sets.
