This traditional Japanese ryokan is really something. The owner is very friendly and you can tell that he is striving to improve his English. All places are well maintained and very clean. Our room had private WC and shower and direct access to the public bath. The public bath was an excellent experience - all finished in marble and a window with look to the garden. Also the owner set-up a camera in a nice spot in garden with auto-shot if you want to take a photo of yourself or your group.

The place was fantastic! the guy at the front desk was so friendly and funny and sweet! he showed us around in english with a massive smile on his face. the bathing area was brilliant. i loved the rooms themselves, classic ryokan style with a tv and mini bar fridge. and the yukata and vest that you are given and can take a great picture in was that touch of genius that made my trip! loved it, i'd recommend it to anyone and for 2500 a night i'm definitely going back!

We've never stayed in a nicer hostel. The owner was super helpful and friendly. The rooms were spacious and clean and the little extras were nice- like free coffee, computer use, photos, and the wonderful bath. We want to go back to Nagoya- just for this amazing little place.

Stayed in a futon dorm with 3 other random travelers. There was surprisingly enough room for everyone but it was cosy. We spent most of the night chatting. This place is very beautiful and clean with a public bath out back near a garden. A traditional breakfast can be added for an inexpensive price so try it out! No one was around before check in.

We slept very well and all the others guests we had were extremely friendly. Our host, Mr Sato, was very friendly and attentive. The city castle is not far away and just two blocks to the nearest metro station. Recommended.

I enjoyed my stay in Kyoya. At first, I honestly thought I accidently booked in a hotel rather than a hostel. Top hostel

Probably the best Japanese hostel I have stayed in yet! Staff were lovely, the rooms were absolutely clean, with everything you need provided, felt very safe, with free coin lockers for luggage storage, excellent wi-fi reception, gorgeous gardens within the hostel, as well as a great public bath (onsen) for free! And not too far from Nagoya station either :) After I checked out I forget some clothes, and the owner rode his bike to find me and give them back! Will definitely be returning!

The best place I've stayed so far. The ryokan is amazingly beautiful, with wonderful rooms, a classic Japanese garden, a hot hot bath (onsen), the owner is friendly, many free facilities (tv, internet, tea, onsen; there's even a flashlight on the key!). Definitely worth it.

This was a great hotel. Far more than I expected for the price tag! The owner is really nice and very helpful. There's a public bath (though a little small) and the rooms have their own private bath. The rooms are super clean and really comfortable. I totally recommend it.

PROS - free wi-fi - one shower and toilet per 3-4 people - you can lock the room's door - free cabinets for bags. I fit 2 school backpacks in mine, and some clothing too. CONS - NO ENGLISH SPOKEN BY ANYONE - I stayed various nights, and during that time roomed with an elderly woman who stomped when she walked, some rude people who did not even respond to "hello", and a bratty teenage male. In the other rooms there were about 20 teenagers for the weekend who were very noisy late at night.

We were very impressed with our short time at Kyoya Ryokan. Our room had a lovely aspect facing out to the traditional Japanese garden. The camera in the garden was a great idea and encouraged us to take some photos in traditional clothing provided by the ryokan. We all enjoyed the hot spring baths - how relaxing at the end of a long day. Thank-you for organising and booking a restaurant close to the ryokan - the food was excellent. On a practical note, we were very glad for the washing machine.

The best hotel I have ever had in japan. If I have another chance to go to Japan, I will choose Kyoya Ryokan again. They have beautiful garden and traditional Japan style rooms, you could take nice photo here. And the environment are looked like the photo on the website.

I absolutely love Kyoya! The manager "Hiro" was such a great guy. I arrived way too late (I did give advanced notice) and even though the doors were locked at 10, and I arrived at 11.30, he was up and about (after a bit of my wandering outside), chirpy and so, so helpful. It felt very homely, and a great way to meet fellow travellers - the roomsize is small (so there is relative privacy), the facilities work like a charm, and the staff just can't be beat. Highly recommended!
