Kyoya ryokan is a perfect place to stay when visiting Nagoya. The rooms are clean and charming. The onesen and back garden are really lovely. The owner is kind and helpful. It's just a 15 minute walk from Nagoya station and maybe 20 from the castle. There's a great market street just 5 minutes away, with bars and restaurants. At the ryokan, spring for the traditional breakfast at least once!

Really nice hotel. Very rustic, beautiful garden, mini onsen, really helpful and warm staff. location isnt the best though. mission to sakae for nightlife!
had a dorm for myself. Perfect stay in a traditional japanese room!
If you are looking for traditional japanese accommodation at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. About 15min by foot from Kyoto Station it offers typical rooms with Tatami floors, mattresses, fresh towels and Yukata and the best off all, a public bath instead of showers [pretty similar to an Onsen just without thermal water] thats open all night long. Staff, even-though they hardly speak any English, is very friendly and helpful and provides you with maps and all necessary Information.
Very friendly, cheap and with that beautiful garden and sento in the backyard it´s a hidden pearl in the city!
This was the best hostel I stayed at while in Japan. The manager is extremely nice and friendly. He even offered me a private room when I asked for a female dorm room instead of a mixed room. The bath facilities in the hotel certainly adds to my Japan experiences. Although the walk with luggage is a bit far from the Nagoya station, the directions to the hostel are extremely clear and I had no trouble getting there on a bus!
Cannot say anything too bad about this one. Has an excellent japanese style bath and all the free tea you can drink. Also it is pretty near the main station, center and Nagoya castle. Friendly staff with the manager who spoke good enough english.
There was a camera inside the dormroom. That is not acceptable!
