Last year stayed here and it was a great experience, back then the staff was nice and I had a great time, I used to recommend this hostel. But this time I was very disappointed, the staff wasn't nice enough, but more important, it's terribly dirty. It's a party hostel and is a great spot to meet cool people, the bar is great.
I stayed at La Brisa Loca for a total of 7 nights and really enjoyed it. The hostel has a really cool atmosphere and vibe. The bar was a fun place to hang out and was definitely fun at night. The hostel is in a great location in the center of the downtown core. It was really hot when we were there however our room had an air conditioner and fan which kept it cool at night, which was great. You should eat at Agave Azul while you are there was well.

Overall a nice hostel for a night break in Santa Marta before moving on. Cheap, good location, AC, etc. I just wish some of the restaurant/bar staff would be more customer focused. Also, having tried a new hostel very close by, I believe the Brisa Loca will have to up their game, recruit service oriented staff and renovate to compete with the value for money. But not a bad.place.otherwise
Very disappointed. Location is very good, house is beautiful and could be a great hostel. Unfortunately it wasn't. The rooms are nice and lockers big, but it is way too hot, the fans don't work well. The bathrooms are dirty most of the time despite the cleaner doing her best. If the hostel is full, it's probably disgusting. There were works during my whole stay, waking me up at 7am with loud bangs and lasting all day. Loud music at night, even though not a lot of people partying. Rude staff.
As some others have mentioned, you need to know what you are getting yourself into. If you are looking for a party, this is the place to be, if not, better avoid it. It reminded me of a frat house, and its hard to escape the atmosphere considering the music until late from the bar. Facilities are nice, a little gym on the roof, and reasonably priced. Staff is nice.
There is no better place to stay in Santa Marta in my opinion for location, atmosphere and activities provided by La Brisa Loca. Ryan and Evan, the owners go out of their way to ensure their guests have a great experience. If you are looking to have a great time, socialize and explore all that Santa Marta and the surrounding area has to offer, look no further! I will be returning in a few months!!

This was my first hostel I stayed at and I really enjoyed it. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The best bartenders, nice drinks, good food at good prices. Looking forward to visit La Brisa Loca again in the future.
The place is really dirty, the swimming pool smell like something have died in it, don't come here if you don't want to ruin your holidays.
Around 10pm we arrived at the bar and there was a very annoying guy with no t-shirt and no pants serving free shots. the guy was tottally drunk and the staff told us he was a very good friend of the owner, who is from the US. The guy wanted to "friendly" fight every single person around and he eventually found a "friend" who accepted the challenge. The fight lasted 10 seconds, the time the drunk guy send the other to the floor and opened his head, causing him a terrible wound that bleeded out.
LOVE this hostel. Great vibe with the swimming pool in the middle of the courtyard. Fun lively bar and great art montages painted on the walls. Oh and they give you a welcome beer on arrival! Room with just a fan was very hot. Will go for A/C next time. Some great street food stalls just around the corner next to the cathedral too. Yum!
The beds and rooms were dirty. Even the bedclothes looked as if they hadn't been washed. The pool, restaurant and roof terrace were fine, in fact the roof terrace was the best part of the hostel with a nice view and comfortable hammocks. The bathrooms were ok, too. There are wooden boxes under the beds for locking stuff in, however, there were several big black bugs in ours, so we didn't use them.
not a bad place. staff was very friendly, and called people by name. that was cool. but if you want to actually sleep....do not come here. they play loud music every night until 2am. not good if you have a scuba class at 7am the next day!

Possibly the nicest hostel I've ever stayed in. Location is in downtown Santa Marta, which is far from my favorite place in Colombia, but the hostel itself is a beautiful mediterranean mansion with awesome amenities: pool in the courtyard, big rowdy bar, pool table, rooftop patio (open all night), nice tv room with thousands of movies, etc. Staff are really friendly and help rile up the bar on party nights - they genuinely seem to have fun working. Can't recommend this place enough.
After hiking a lot in Tayrona Park i have booked a private room to have a little more comfort. I paid something like 100.000 per night and the room was a kind of dark and dirty when I arrived ( just next to the stairway that goes up to the roof top, then it was impossible to sleep at night) they should sell this room with a lower price because the value for this rooms is unaceptable. I paid half of this price for better rooms in Taganga for example. Breakast they served should improve as well.
Definitely one of the best hostels I have been too. Awesome staff, fun enviroment, location is center of town close to everything. This place is very well put together. It also has an awesome bar inside and resteraunt attached. Resteraunt is easily some of the best food I have had in last few months. I will absolutely be staying there the next time I visit colombia.
Nice hostel with good facilities. The staff is all backpackers so don¨t expect any Spanish. If you want a quiet place for sleeping don't come here, there's party till late night just directly next to the rooms in the bar.
Decent location – supermarket about 10 minutes away. This is a big party hostel – music is playing till the early hours of the morning and drinking at all times of the day . Staff are friendly most of the time. Bathrooms generally clean. The good clubs are in Taganga which is a 10 minute cab away, so most people drink here first and then go there.
