I arrived very late at night and was apprehensive about the area, and although I got used to it I suspect that others may feel the same. However, it was very clean, staff welcoming and did not take too long to get up to 125th Street on the Express subway

1. Very noisy area. lots of shouting and sirens at night and traffic queueing along street blaring horns2. Wonky staircases are dangerous - they were about 20 degrees off flat and so difficult to carry up suitcases. (no lift) 3. old furniture items. quite ancient really. 4. Bonus was - at least had a kitchen to use for cooking. 5. insecure or difficult to use locks on bathroom and shower top floor nr room - did not feel secure 6. Fairly run down 99% African American area

Wonderful stay at La Sienna! Very close to the direct subway to downtown! Nice room with bathroom and kitchen for a very good price. The owners are very nice. If you are looking for a very modern hotel don't come here, but if you like the old charm of a guest house, you will like the place! We had a great time in New York! And the place is really safe!

I stayed for five nights and enjoyed the stay very much. It was much better than I had expected. Although the single room was small, everything I needed was there. The kitchen and bathrooms were very clean. The owner was very kind. I would like to stay here again when I come back to NY. The loation was very good, too. I could go to the 125th station directly from JFK. There was an elvator at the station and only 5 minutes' walk to La Sienna.

We had a wonderful stay at La Sienna. Even if its a bit outside the city center, it is a warm and welcoming place for everyone in New York. You can easily get there by Metro Train (there is an express train that gets you extremely fast downtown) and it is very safe, even though you might be worried about that it is in Harlem, there is a police station just 2 minutes away and don't worry, it is safe even at night. The owners are just wonderful - I simply loved the atmosphere!

The place is safe, clean and quiet. Really good if you dont need to make friends in the hostel. There's nothing in the neighbhood, but it is just 3 blocks from a subway station. Bailey is the best!

The payment methods are very archaic. In today's day and in a big city like New York the house still does not accept credit cards, so take cash or otherwise treat you like a deadbeat. The home owner is quite rude, it is virtually impossible to communicate with him. The location is modest, the facilities are very good and the cleanliness is excellent, but they definitely do not know how to treat a customer well. Surely in a new visit to New york I am staying again not in La Sienna ..

Very good value-wise hostel. Not for party people though. It's very warm in the winter, which is greatly appreciated. Large selection of complimentary teas at the kitchen, at least twice I even found some complimentary Red Bulls. There are umbrellas you can also use for free. Main lock is sometimes a bit hard to open. Zone is okay for regular tourists, there's a grocery store nearby and the metro is not far from there. The stairs creak a bit and rooms are tiny but very clean.

So far so good. Subway station is within walking distance. Travelling to downtown and Time Square just take you about 20 -30 mins. Also, if you are looking for a place with a kitchen, this is a good choice. The kitchen is well equipped, also with different flavor of tea. BUT you should be a little aware of the security because this hostel is located in Harlem district.

Comfortable bed. Hot shower. Short walk from the subway station. If you're looking for a great place to stay on a budget, look no further! I was there for 6 days and would definitely go back.

Great place and great location. Yvete and Many are always to support you and give a hand if required. The Sienna is very near two subway lines and is fast to reach the places to visit at Manhattan

La Sienna is perfect in terms of value and for those looking for guesthouse rather than hotel accomodation experience. The owner literally demands respect for his set of rules. If you're not trying to deviate from these basic rules intentionally you'd find this property even charming with original wooden decor and squeaky stairways. Location is really safe with a NYPD precinct just across the street and subway station in 2-3 minutes walking distance. Just do not expect too much from Harlem )))

We really enjoyed our stay at La Siena. The owners were awesome, they took a lot of time giving us recommendations on where to go in NYC. It was super clean all the time. Just by the hostel is a Deli that seemed to be open long at night. If you're on the express train, it doesn't take long to go to downtown Manhattan (about 10-15 min, depending on where you are going), however by local train and when changing trains it sometimes takes a long time, but I guess that's just what it is in NYC.
