Amazing View. Extremely Friendly Staff. Clean and everything you could ever need at a great price. The only hostel I would book in Oaxaca!

I've stayed at La Villada Inn 4-5 times now. It's run by an awesome family who make you feel right at home. The staff is attentive to what you need, and will consistently go out of there way to accomodate you. The place feels more like a resort than a hostel and has always felt super safe. There's an awesome pool, great little restaurant and bar, all with gorgeous views of the mountains. It seems to attract a great crowd too as I've always met cool people passing through.

would NOT recommend this place at all. Far away from everything, they didn{t have food in the restaurant, not even milk for a coffee- restaurant staff were rude and not helpfull at all. They advertise the bar which looks pretty good but only opens Saturday nights. Went there with my boyfriend hoping to find a backpackerish environment and it was the most boring place we have stayed in mexico. very dissapointing. they wouldnt even let us use the pool table and there was none at all. OVERATED!

And Sorry you had a bad experience here! We will try to improve our place. The bar its close on other days so there is no noice for the guests, but we have a beer dispencer every day... Well, what can we do, we have one comment like this every hundred people...

Hostel is situated on top of the hill: amazing view, but you need a taxi to get there (40-50 peso). Personally I loved it because of the quietness (no honking cars). The owner (Javier) is a really nice guy, we had several talks (beers) with him and he gave us advice on where to go and what to do. He would make sure our stay would be not forgotten. Pool is a big plus in hot Oaxaca. Breakfast not included but it's cheap and good quality. Would go there again!

Quiet hostel with views over the surrounding area. The owner is really hepful and the atmosphere is relaxed. The only downside was the pool which wasn´t that clean.

Their facilities are simply excellent. Quiet neighborhood, clean and spacious rooms, awesome bar with pool, and swiming pool. The owner family is very helpful and nice. You don't need to think about how and what to do in Oaxaca. The only complaint is their location. They are on a pretty big hill and it's like torture to climb up from the bus stop to the hostel. I gave up to walk myself and took taxi every time. Overall this hostel, but, are highly recommended if you don't need to stay downtown.

The only real criticism we had is that the shower head sprayed water all over the place making it difficult to find a good place to rinse! The management and staff were delightful.

As comfortable as a bed on a dancefloor... Everthing was fine (pool, restaurant, room) until the night started, and with it the party at the poolbar. In the case of this posada a party in the bar means that anyone in the next 100m will hear music loud and clear, whether actually being on the dancefloor or in their bed. So until the music stopped at 4 am, none was able to sleep and nobody had warned us. So before booking here, make sure no party is planned - or that you are in a big party mood.

My room was noisy and dirty, spiders, black hairs in the shower and dust so thick on the shelves it stained my case. I tried to pay 3 times but the staff were not around. Having been told I could pay in US$ and receive change in US$ I did not and got my change in pesos at a bum exchange rate. After the 4th night of not being able to sleep due to loud music I left at 3.00am. They have a bar they hire out to corporates for Xmas parties. Deeply unhelpful staff too.

Dear Thank you for your feedback, and sorry your stay at La Villada was less then ideal. Regarding the hairs in the shower and dust on the shelves, we have had a word with our cleaning staff. Regarding the spiders: as we are located on a hillside in relative wilderness, use rustic wood and adobe construction, enjoy a mild climate that encourages leaving windows open, and do not wish to use harmful pesticides except where absolutely necessary, we simply cannot guarantee a completely spider-free environment. Given our high occupancy rate, we can assure you in that the shy and gentle creatures that occasionally wander in are harmless (black widows etc. preferring uninhabited surroundings). Regarding your trouble locating the staff, this is not usually a problem as the staff actually live on the premises. Our set-up is perhaps less formal than you are accustomed to. Still, we will work on this in the future Regarding the loud music: At this time of year it is customary for Mexicans to make merry into the wee hours during the unveiling and parading of their elaborate manger scenes (posadas). The music you heard on your first night was one of these taking place in the village below the hostel. There is nothing we can do about this. If you want quiet nights at this time of year you might try a different country. Regarding the money exchange issue: our policy, clearly stated on our website, is to accept foreign currencies where possible, not to give change in foreign currencies (though this might in some circumstances be possible for US dollars). As we do not all speak perfect English it is possible there was some confusion about this in your case. As your total bill for four nights in a newly constructed private room with king size bed and private bathroom was US$54, and as you live in Queretaro, we did not realize that giving you your US$16 or so in change in pesos (at a reasonable rate of 13 pesos to the dollar: we are a hostel, not a bank) would be such a problem. You seemed OK with it at the time. Regarding our private bar, Club Q' Vola: This is usually open to select locals and all of our residents (many of whom have enjoyed our excellent selection of mescals and high quality pool table) on Friday and Saturday nights. It is true that we rented the bar out for a Christmas party recently, but the bank manager was a friend of ours (as were many of the other employees: we are a small community, not London), and this was, again, symptomatic of the time of year. You ought to have cheered up and joined us, as did several of the other hostel residents, who learned to prepare (and eat) tlayudas while enjoying beer, rum and whisky, all complements of HSBC Oaxaca (the evil corporation in question). Re. the unhelpful staff, and your Hostelworld review generally: A quick read through the other reviews will perhaps make it clear to you that your critique is simply over the top. Even if all of your concerns were justified, would what so many others have seen for what it is - an unusually luxurious hostel experience - really deserve a 47% rating? Having been told (to repeat what in any case is clearly pointed out on the web site) that the hostel is 15 minutes by taxi out of town, and a bit hard to find, you went into an hysterical fit when you got lost in your car, and were subsequently quite abusive to the owners who generally garner rave reviews (and are simply two of the friendliest guys on the planet). This set the tone for the remainder of your visit. Perhaps it is time you moved on to boutique hotels, and left the hostels for those who know how to enjoy them.

Whilst this hostel is a bit out of the town it is beautiful and more like a resort under construction than a hostel, at a hostel prices. Bus service in and out of town makes it work. Stay here if you want to chill or the Centro if you want to party...
