Well i can't rate the staff because there aren't any! but if you can get over that then this is actually quite a nice place to stay, its clean, warm and secure. The place also has good facilities (including wifi, kitchen and laundry) and is walking distance to town (1.5 miles / 2.4 kilometres to the lake).

Over priced as didn't have any staff on site. Unhelpful when we did phone them. Tiny, cramped rooms with very uncomfortable beds. Stay in a YHA in the lake district instead.

Owner Comment (Show)
Hi Natasha, I am sorry you felt the room was tiny. This is a 6 bed room and for 2 of the nights, there was only the 2 of you and one or two other people at most. I will certainly look into the mattresses in there, as we have a policy of changing them regularly. The price of £15 is a lot cheaper than any of the hostels in the area.

Value for money fine, didn't even see manager or owner and name wasn' t on the list so had to phone to find out if I was booked in and make my own bed. But that was fine. I had good company and was close to town.

It was an interesting experience. The hostel is self-service and we saw ZERO signs of staff at all. It had it's good points and bad points. The sheets weren't made very well and the upstairs shower was broken, other than that though everything was pretty good.

I did like the set-up with no staff around; but I was a little worried that some of the guests were squating without paying. A very nice set-up nonethelss and everything was cleaned daily. Although the upstairs shower did not work; so there was only one shower in the entire hostel.

I really liked the honesty system at Lake District Backpackers. It felt more like a "home away from home" than a hostel, especially with the cozy electric fire. I realize that the nature of the unstaffed hostel is that keys for rooms cannot be issued, but it would have been nice to have some lockers in the dorms to lock valuables. Also there were issues with the front door security, sometimes I would go downstairs to find it open because people couldn't get it to close with the code system lock.

well, average clean, but when everything is self-service, it's quite awful, especially the facility is not stable, only two toilet in the hostel and it's not easy to find a staff to help. 15 pounds for just one night will be fine, location is good, but i would say, try to find another one, unless you just need a "bed" to "sleep" for one or two nights.

We were quite disappointed with this hostel. The honesty policy is a bit strange and there are no staff on site to help you with anything. We booked a 4 bed dorm and were put in a 6 bed female dorm which wasn't really suitable as I was travelling with my boyfriend. I called the owner to get it fixed up but he just told us to stay in the 6 bed dorm. The parking is quite far away and the pc provided wasn't even connected to the internet. The toilet paper also ran out with no one to replace it
