The whole place was disgusting, sheets were used and dirty and the bathroom was extremly dirty ("yellow liquid" on the floor etc). Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The toilet was blocked as was the kitchen sink with used plates and dishes filling up the sink. There was no drinking water kept in the room nor were there any towels kept.

The security was of course fine, with huge electric fences. The atmosphere, ya, there is a swimming pool but since it was very cold it is not possible to use it, also because of the dirtyness, like all the house- it was very, the dirty towels was all around. In the kitchen the sink was not working, also were was no Wifi and the owner was charging for using her internet stick.

I really enjoyed my stay at Lakeview Backpackers, and the host Ronell an excellent host.

Nice place very near OR Tambo Int'l Airport (15mins by car), in a quiet area. It's not clearly marked, but once we got in, the friendly, easy-going couple who runs it made us feel quite comfortable. Facilities are ok, the pool looked good (too cold to try it!) and the breakfast (not included) was filling. Good option!

Great location, nice people.

The staff was very nice and there was a kitchen which was a plus! The toilet wasn't working nor was the electricity at one point (and it was winter so it got a bit cold at night). All in all, it was a good value for the price though- very affordable and the people were nice. I would, however, advise you to rent a car to get here (it's not too far from the airport but I'd advise anyone who wants to go to SA to rent a car to get around!).

I was looking urgently for somewhere to overnight on my way home from a holiday abroad. The staff were friendly and welcoming, not just to me, but other travellers staying over. The only problem I had was with the heating system for the water in the shower. Its complicated to use if you don't know how it works and I had a cold shower on a very cold winters day :( I highly recommend Lakeview Backpackers

LakeView is a fantastic place to stay. I felt like coming back to home as I had the base there. Was able to move around and help with cooking and is an excellent place. Ronel was so sweet. Fell in love with the place.

We booked through this webpage. They were not aware that we were coming. The place has a cool seventies vibe, but it is not clean. We found a lot of hairs in our beds - seemed like the sheets had not been washed.

Super friendly staff. Very clean, safe, spacious grounds. The 4 dorm room didn't seem to have too many outlets to charge things, but around the other rooms you can find some. The lake and park nearby are also beautiful, if you have some time, but not enough to go out to the city.

What an awesome group of welcoming, friendly, interesting people running a charming backpackers! They took excellent, personalized care of us, were approachable but not overbearing. A fun, low-key atmosphere. The grounds are well set-up to provide quiet places to hang out, or places to gather/share some good times around the pool, outside bar, or tv room. Rooms provided enough comfort & quiet for a good night's rest. Facilities are all in good repair and adequate, although upgrades are planned.

Ronel is amazing! Just don`t go there if you don`t like dogs!

Runell and her mother are great people, they try to make your stay as easy as possible. Great place to stay especially if you have just flown into Jo'burg or flying out the next morning b/c it is about 10 mins drive from the OR Tambo, and Runell will drive you and pick you up from there. When I was there, the hostel was overbooked and I had to stay in another guest house close by arranged by the Lakeview staff. Still, great service.
