Landing Pads is lovely. Matt, the owner is a very friendly guy who makes you feel right at home. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay in Melbourne and I would heartily recommend it to anyone who wished to stay for a longer while in Melbourne. It's located in the heart of Brunswick, which has lots of shops and bars. If you want to get to the CBD though it's easiest to catch a tram, which stops very close to the hostel. Walking to the CBD takes approx. 1 hour.
A nice friendly atmosphere, and an easy and accessible location. Just round the corner from the tram into the city (Sydney Rd) and Brunswick is full of many cultures, cuisines and shops. A five minute walk to the supermarket and plenty of bars with live music and comedy nights. Excellent for anyone wanting to spend more time in Melbourne.
It's definitely one of the best hostel throughout my travel to Europe and Asia. People are nice and friendly, good facilities and makes you feel like "home".
If you're planning on staying in a hostel in Melbourne, I strongly recommend Landing Pads. I've stayed in other hostels in Melbourne, including a hostel in Brunswick, and Landing Pads leaves them for dead. The atmosphere was very friendly, and Matt, the care taker, incredibly helpful. Don't be put off by the fact that Landing Pads is in Brunswick rather than the city itself. Brunswick is a fun suburb in it's own right, and only about 15 minutes by tram or train to the CBD.
This place is a gem. It's out of the CBD but Brunswick is fantastic and you can catch the tram by the hostel to the CBD in 25 minutes. This place is for longer term backpackers so you get to know everyone. It's not a wild party hostel but there is plenty going on if you want to be social but it's quiet enough to chill too. I booked in for a week and have ended up staying for nearly 3 months. It's a home away from home. Only suggestion to improve would be an additional cooker in the kitchen.
A nice place for a longer stay. Brunswick is not quite central, but it's a very nice area. You won't find security lockers, but the place is treated more like a home than a hostel, and it seems to work. The house is an old townhouse with some creaking floors, but everything is clean. Overall, a great place, kudos to Matt running it.
Landing Pads is a great place to stay. Its a good size and id say no more than 16 people here which makes it feel more homely. Matt who runs the place is very approachable and knowledgeable about all things Melbourne! All necessary amenities are within walking distance and the CBD is a 15min tram ride away. Most folk are here long term so you're sure to make some pals.

If you are looking for a longer term stay which is value for money in a good location Landing Pads is for you. It's pretty new even though it's in an old terrace house so floors can squeak upstairs and shower can flick to cold quickly but those are minor issues. It's ideal for people who are working/studying as the hostel is carpeted and comfortable with desks and a veggie garden. Matt is a good, welcoming host with local knowledge. Dorm room had balcony too. Would stay again.
What a fantastic week at landing pads. Used it as a base to get set up in Melbourne ... Brunswick is great and now actually living in the area; far better than st kilda. Cheers to matt for taking us round the local pubs, always want a local (even if he is technically a kiwi!) as a guide. Aside from the awesome area and staff, had a blast meeting other backpackers. V social environment and the setup is ideal for meeting ppl if you're travelling solo. Cheers for the intro to Aussie life :)
Me and my girlfriend recently stayed at Landing Pads upon arrival in Melbourne looking for work. We checked into a private room, which included desk space, a good amount of storage and a big mirror. It felt a little bit dated but has a nice homely feel to it. We were on the lookout for jobs from the day we arrived and the free wifi was super fast which was very helpful. I wouldn't hesitate going back. Matt was keen to make sure every guest was as happy as possible. D :)
