Great value for money. Free wifi which was much faster than expected. Friendly staff. The hostel itself has good facilities with a well equipped kitchen, powerful hot showers, nice lounge area with tv. Hostel has a good atmosphere and was easy to make friends as a solo traveller. Some long term guests who are very friendly and offer good travel advice. Will definitely stay again if im back in Auckland. I wish the supermarket was a bit closer though :)

Free wifi is great (even thought the coupon system is a bit annoying...). No grocery store close but quite close to the bus links. Friendly staff!

Awesome hostel, feels like home if you stay there... Staff is very friendly and whole atmosphere is just perfect!! Don't stay in the city, this hostel is a bit outside but with a 20 min walk you're right in the city!!

I chose the Lantana lodge specifically because it was out of the CBD of Auckland. I was looking for a better sleep while still maintaining a fun good atmosphere, which is what I found there. It\'s kept quite tidy and feels welcoming, with a cozy common area and plenty of porch-space. On top of it all, the free internet was great!

This place is really homely and very chilled out. There's a great atmosphere and friendliness that you don't find in many of the larger hostels. I'd definitelly recommend it.

Nice Hostel! situated in a very nice district of Auckland made of beautiful white houses on a hill. It is a bit far away from the city center (at least 30 min walking) but there is a bus running every 15 min at a 5 min walk. the double room was clean and nice, also the kitchen and the bathrooms were clean. The owner is very very nice and kind while the japanese staff was a bit unfriendly. He let us use the phone for local calls for free! Would definitely stay here again!

This is a small hostel and therefore quiet and reasonably well located in Auckland. Kitchen is small and there is not much seating area for eating. Lodging in New Zealand is expensive so hard to get good value.

Very clean, a homey feeling to it. Not a party place but nice for travellers missing home.

Very nice staff, the hostel owner was very friendly and informed us about what to do in town and booked the shuttle service for us to go to the airport. I would recommend it :)

Nothing super fancy but lovely homely feeling in this old wooden house. Only tried a double, dunno about dorms. Haven\'t use shared kitchen but seemed fine. Great location too

Might be time to change the carpet. Basement rooms where a bit noisy - could hear people upstairs in the kichen in the morning.

I stayed there with my family in dec/2011. It was the first stop of our first visit to NZ and AUS. And for my sons was the first experience in a non-portuguese/spanish speaking country. I was a bit worried about the first impression. But it was wonderful. The people were very gentle, very friendly (as all the newzealanders). The hostel was simple but clean and very well located. I needed to change our reservation in Christmas and they made no problem at all. Very nice, I recommend.

We booked Lantana many weeks before coming to Auckland. Just 2 days before getting there, lantana staff e-mailed me (which was strange, because they had not replied to my e-mails with questions) to inform me that because of some painting my room would be unavailable. They were kind enough to offer us a room at their other lodge (Freeman's) which was OK (but I would normally never choose it). So, in sum, nice people, but they need to improve communications.
