Fantastic location if you're up for partying in Lapa, literally 3 minutes walk from the main bar area. Had no issues with security whatsoever, despite some brazilians seeming to believe Lapa is a dangerous place. It's really not. The occasional hooker on the street corner, but nothing to worry about unless a lightly clothed man or woman freaks you out completely.

Fun hostel, nice staff, great location and cheap. No air con but that wasn't really a problem. Big lockers to store belongings. Bathroom facilities are ok, clean but not the nicest and not always with toilet roll.

Staff was super attentive but the hostel run out of hot water during all our stay. The bedroom we stayed didn't have a window, no ventilation at all and was moldy.

I booked 10 nights and I can really recommend this hostel. It was mostly visited by Brazilians, you get into contact with your roommates very fast and its very nice if you want to train your Portuguese. The location is good, very close to the bars, the arcs and the stairs in Santa Theresa. Metro is about 15 min. by feet. Lapa means bars and music, so of course it can be loud especially at the weekends. It is not a noble shiny hostel but it is real and has a very good and friendly atmosphere.

they have to know more about activities, any knowledge about the city.

Only stayed there one night but overall was decent, in a good location, bed was clean and comfortable and shower was clean. Only problem was no hot water

Excellent location, good staff. BUT (!) every morning the cleaning staff starts at 7/8am and talking pretty loud, almost screaming. If you are in the lower rooms, close to the bathrooms, sleeping is impossible. No respect to the guests. Other than that, clean, good kitchen. Good value for money. If you dont mind waking up that early in the morning, definitely a good stay.

There is no hot water and the bathrooms are very dirty. One person I was with got bitten by bed bugs each night in the 21 person room. All in all, Lapa district is an awesome place to be in Rio for street parties and cultural activities but this hostel could use some upgrades.

Superb for partying and weekend stays as the location puts you right in the Lapa strip area where it's a huge party on a Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday night. Otherwise the place was very expensive (as every other place was) during the world cup but quality definitely didn't seem to equal to the price they inflated it to. Tour planned through hostel fell through the first time but eventually worked out. Wanna party? Stay for the weekend = amazing.

In addition to the fact that I saw a hooker squat down and pee in the street literally 50 feet from the entrance, the hostel was the worst one I stayed in on my 5 week trip. Spent a week there and never once had hot water, the internet was only available part of the time, and the neighborhood was sketchy. It was great for going out in Lapa however, but that was its only redeeming quality. Also booked a flavela tour through them which was not good at all.

Hostel surrounded by sluts and poverty. Bathrooms didnt work for 3 days (no water). Staff is kind. It was too expensive for a hostel.

*DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES* 1. Dangerous and derelict location in Lapa 2. Made us walk to a completely different location in an even scummier part of town, when there, the only way to describe the room would be a "rape dungeon" from a horror film. All it was, was a mattress on milk crates with stains, and soiled sheets with a half naked girl already lying on it. No windows or lockable doors. 3. Extremely dirty 4. "Lost" our booking even though we booked 10 months in advance

Great location for partying in lapa. Hostel is small and basic but great friendly staff especially rose

You can't get much closer to the nights of Lapa than this. Being there for a Brazil World Cup game electrified the atmosphere even more.

I was in town during the world cup so like everything it was overpriced, but normally it would be a good bet for a hostel in the heart of the nightlife.

Average. Showers are rubbish and thr wifi didnt work the entire time we were there. Only good thing was that its in the centre of lapa so good for going out but area is bit dodgy at night...

Best Time Ever!

The staff were really friendly and helpful and spoke good English. The location was great for access to all the bars, clubs and street parties, but it's a noisy place so not for everyone.

I've had a great experience staying at the Lapa Hostel at Rio. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about the area. It was nice meeting other travellers in the hostel. The staff and the people staying there made me feel at home. I love their free caparihinas Friday and Saturday nights. It's close to the San Dumont airport, the museum, Lapa, and the Ipanema and Copacabana. Just like the area the hostel gives a bohemian and friendly vibe. I would come here again.

I've never seen such a familiar atmosphere in a Hostel. Staff are very nice and like to congregate everybody from the Hostel to go out together, with I had never seen. Amazing place!
