A pleasant place to stay with the added interest of Iguanas crawling in the roof spaces. You may need to check whether it is up for sale. Please note Lago Arenal Hostal, at Nuevo Arenal, no longer exists, It is now an expensive Bluezone Spa Hotel.

Had a lovely stay here during march 2012,really nice couple running the hostel, very friendly and helpful! Has nice lounge area to chill out and patio table outside, also its located off busy main road which is nice but its not far from supermarket, beach etc.

Very nice owners and location (up hill from mail rd, just before arriving at funky monkey). Far enough off main rd to avoid constant dust, and close to beach trail and many food options. Ac Use ( only available in livingroom) is $7 a day, towel use is $3, and it's byob drinking water ( not cheap at the local market). The neighbors also have roosters, just so you know.

The air conditioner in the shared room is not a good idea. you need them in the bedrooms. Hooks on the walls to hang clothes...goood idea

Private room was actually 2 separate rooms of a fully equipped apartment (kitchen, fridge etc) which was good. Was a problem with plumbing noises, however owners of hostel very apologetic and did all they could to rectify the problem.

We really enjoyed our stay here,we were in a private room, the standard was higher than other places we have stayed, it was comfortable, clean with plenty of space. The owners were friendly, gave us plenty of information about what to do and how to get about, nice relaxed atmosphere. It was a little way up a side road with trees all around, but we could be on the beach in a couple of minutes and there was a supermarket round the corner. Would have been happy to stay longer. Highly recommended.
