My partner and I have been travelling China for 5 weeks and despite only staying here for 4 nights, it's our favourite place. The owner (Wona) was extremely helpful with everything. The food is cheap and really good. We hired bikes and cycled around the lake which was a great experience. The lake itself is a 2 minute walk down a quiet dirt track opposite the hostel. There are several minibuses that pass the hostel and plenty of taxis that can take you to Old Town.
This was one of the best places we stayed in China. We got a taxi from Lijiang (50yuan) and it was lovely to escape the town for a couple of days. We went for one walk on our own following the horse trekking paths and one guided walk with Zhou (Jo). The guided hike was challenging (as desired) and took us up to the mountain tops over looking the lake and neighbouring valley. It was incredible. I wholly recommend, you get a taste of country living and the views were breathe taking.
