The hostel is very badly situated. It's hard to reach. A lot of local people are just mean, e.g. they charge you (by a very mean way) for coming closer to the local lake. Wona staff is very VERY incompetent and mean. When we arrived it took them almost 1 hour to register us. We had to help them with using their own PC. They forgot that we had a reservation, which itself would be ok, but they treated us as if it were our fault. The rooms were covered with dust. Nothing to eat in the village.
Lijiang City itself is not pretty, but Wona's hostel is located a few kilometers out of the City, surrounded by nature. This is definitely a plus! The staff is really helpfull
My partner and I have been travelling China for 5 weeks and despite only staying here for 4 nights, it's our favourite place. The owner (Wona) was extremely helpful with everything. The food is cheap and really good. We hired bikes and cycled around the lake which was a great experience. The lake itself is a 2 minute walk down a quiet dirt track opposite the hostel. There are several minibuses that pass the hostel and plenty of taxis that can take you to Old Town.
