Good place. As advertised. The locks are tricky to work. If you haven't played Bop-It in years be prepared for a tough time getting through doors. Great breakfast, free computers, good wifi throughout, nice bar on the roof.

Hi there, sorry to hear that you found our locks system a bit tricky, altough is very secure and our staff is always happy to help you . Kind regards Mad Hostel

Rooms are very stuff with no windows. Whilst there is air conditioning in the rooms that can be turned on only by staff members and the staff are very happy to turn it on for you, it can only be set for a certain length of time. It would be best if each room had a fan or I would recommend bringing a travel-sized fan.

Hello, our building is in a shape of a corrala, that means that some of the rooms have windows to the corrala and others ones to the street, although all of our rooms do have windows. The air conditioned can be set for as many hours as requested. Did you informed our receptionist that your air conditioned had stopped working?

Had such a good time at living mad! Easy to meet new people, either at the free breakfast or the rooftop bar! The daily free walking tour was great, thanks Carlos! The beds are a bit squicky and internet in the room did not always work (worked in the common areas though). However the atmosphere and organised activities made well up for it!

The walking tour with Carlos was great!

Very safe and clean hostel in a good location with helpful staff. Having a kitchen is ideal for saving money on food plus they did a paella night which was 3€. 24 hour bar is pretty cool and the sister hostel around the corner, Cats, has a good atmosphere.

Good hostel that isn't overpriced. Breakfast as good and it had a nice communal area. The showers are a bit weird as they mostly hit the wall and handle. Other than that it was great. Oh yeah it gets really hot in the rooms, no ac or any sort of air circulation.

Hello, thanks for your feedback in regards to the showers, we'll check-it. We have air conditioned in all our rooms, did you ask reception to swich it on?

I've been there 2 nights. Very secure you access the rooms by using a card that also give you access to your personal big locker in the room. Showers and toilets are very clean and checked every hour! Breakfast is included and "low cost": milk, juice, coffee, tea, cereals, bread, jam, packed sweet snacks. Kitchen is functional but very small, only one person a time can use it. Is not a party hostel (good for me :D) also because the rooms are noise-isolated from the living-noisy area.

Bathrooms need an upgrade... Communal small and no space to dry yourself off in private. Door key card is a nightmare until you figure it out... All my room mates took 10mins to open the door on their first day

Hello, thanks for your feedback, we'll bare this on mind when upgrading the bathrooms. Sorry to read that you felt that our locks system is a bit tricky to learn, although is very secure and gives all our guest peace of mind, do not hesitate to ask our staff to help you any time that you need it. Kind regards Mad Hostel

A really well organised hostel. Great communal areas and within walking distance. I'm a female solo traveller and I always felt safe in the area. The facilities were really clean, as were the rooms. Beds were comfy. I'd definitely recommend this hostel and would stay there again.

Not the best hostel ever: staff is not friendly, not really trying to make you feel welcomed. Neither the rooms: very small, packed with beds, no windows, you dont want to spend there any extra minute :) Though besides that it looked quite nice, short walk till city center. Still wouldnt stay there again, sorry guys.

Hello, sorry to read that you didn´t fell very comfortable, we're very surprised as our staff is always prise of how friendly and welcoming they are, even though we'll investigate what happened while you were here .In regards to the rooms, if you don´t like to share in a dormitory we have very nice double rooms with private bathrooms. Our building is a historic building, which has rooms overlooking the street and other ones with windows to the big corrala, therefore all our rooms have windows.

What a perfect stay in Madrid! The lockers were incredibly secure, at no point was I worried about losing my possessions. In addition, the walking tour and 24 hour bar were two pretty sweet amenities.

This hostel was my first taste of Madrid and I wasn't disappointed. The staff was very helpful in giving us easy-to-understand directions, hints for amazing places to eat, and locations for cheap eats and drinks. Plenty of toilets, showers, and hot water. Also, there is a bar on premises and another fun one up the street in cat's hostel. Location is close enough to everything in Madrid you can walk, but far enough way you won't have much traffic.

Hello, in Mad Hostel we also have a rooftop bar to enjoy the sunshine :) Thanks for leaving you experience with us!

The hostel was quite basic, but very clean and a good value for your money. Overall, we had a nice stay here. A lot of people on our floor were confused about the bathrooms (most assumed it was communal and didn't realize they were gender specific) which made things a bit awkward at times. Also the bathrooms aren't very private, so keep that in mind if that's something that's important to you. The check-in process was a bit long, as the receptionist was not in any hurry.

Hi there, our bathrooms are male and female, with signs on the doors, so I'm not sure where is the confussion, maybe using them in a hurry..;) Even though they are shared bathrooms, we are working to make them a bit more private. In our check-in time we always try to make our guest feel welcome, explaining as much as possible of what they might need or they might want to see and do, apologies that you felt it was a bit lenghty.

Breakfast was pretty small. Didn´t seem like the staff really tried to make things acessible.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that you thought that our breakfast is small as our free breakfast has: coffee, milk, tea, orange juice, toasts with butter and jam, chocolate spread and pastries, and is served as buffet, therefore you can help yourself to several helpings. Also is replenished till the last minute of our breakfast time. I'm not sure which things you found not accesible, but did you ask our receptionist to help you?

Super cool hostel. The staff were really welcoming and friendly, which was important as I was travelling alone. Very central and close to bars, museums, and all the wonderful things Madrid has to offer. The facilities were great for the price, perfect for when you plan on being out and about and need a bed and safe place to crash out. It is nothing fancy but you get what you pay for! Loads of fun, made some real friends and would definitely come back! Rooftop bar was ace vibes.

Great to read that you loved your time with us in Madrid and made loads of friends, see you soon! :)

I only stayed in the Living Mad Hostel for a couple of nights and still I found it great. It's location is excellent, being just a very short walk from the Puerta del Sol and the entire centre. The breakfast was great, the rooms and facilities were clean and the people we met there were great. The hostel also provides a free walking tour and many other activities both for the day time and for the nightlife. My free walking tour was with Viviana, and she was the best guide one could wish for.

Four person dorm is about 8x10 so extremely small and cramped. No room for two people to walk at once. The window to the room also opens to the hostel interior rather than to any fresh air. The owner says ask to have the air conditioner turned on, but will leave it on for maybe an hour before turning it off again, leaving you in an unbearably hot, sweaty room with 3 others. It's disgusting. The hostel is also located on some shady back road. Would never go back.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Sorry to read that you felt that your dorm was small. Our building, is a historic building in the shape of a corrala. This corrala is open air and very spacious. We also have some dormitories with balcony to the street, did you ask at reception for a change of dormitory if these were available? The air conditioned is left on as long as our guest request it, did you came down to reception to informed us that had stop working?. Apologies once again from Mad Hostel
