The dorm rooms are cleaned and scrubbed down every day, unfortunately you arrived late when all the other guests had dumped all there bags and as they had been camping they were a bit smelly. I am sorry. We have the owners phone number on the door of the reception when reception closed. The breakfast is only £3 for tea/coffee, fresh apple and orange juice, various cereals and toast with jams and spreads and porridge, and you can eat as much as you like.

We only stayed one night but had a good time. The staff are friendly and it's in a good location between Loch Ness and the castle. Wifi worked well in common areas but not in our room which was outside the main house. Would recommend.

Put a spot light on your sign so people arriving after dark can find you easily.

There were some really nice things about the hostel. The dorm I was staying in had all the bunks coloured and nice colourful looking linen on the beds. It was in a good place to walk to Drumnadrochit (10 mins, has a bunch of Loch Ness stuff) and to walk to Urquhart Castle (about 20-30 mins). But if you have a room in the initial old farmhouse part, the security is light due the front door always being open and not having to pass reception to go upstairs, though they do have lockers downstairs.

Here in the highlands most people are very trusting as we do not have levels of crime like larger cities. You may think the security is poor but all the rooms have keypad locks on and lockers available and cameras in place. We are in a very small village. As we have a old farmhouse set up we cannot change the layout to put a reception at the front door. I do hope that the old fashioned pace of life and trusting nature we have never goes.

It was an ok place to stay for the one night but the person running the hostel was never around so checking in and out was an issue as was asking any questions. Breakfast wasn't included in the price and if you wanted a simple breakfast it was 3 pound. There was also signs everywhere about cheap pizza for dinner but when we asked about it the owner said no we don't do that. It was close to all the sights we wanted to see and the facilities were clean so it was fine for a nights stay.

I am sorry the bar & restuarant was not open but in March the hostel had only 4 persons paying less than £80 in total for their accommodation we cannot afford to pay a receptionist/ bar staff and a chef to cater for 4 persons. There's a supermarket 5 mins walk and 3 bars/restuarants 5 mins. Small independant hostels cannot afford to have 24 hour staff. The breakfast is optional and the next nearest hostel charges £4.50 for the same breakfast.
